Why the Leawood Chamber?
The mission of the Leawood Chamber of Commerce is to provide our members with a meaningful voice in the community and to maximize our members’ opportunities to enjoy business success. We support member businesses by providing a variety of activities and services, which allow organizations to expand their network of contacts and reach out to the community.
Our members tell us that the Leawood Chamber is just the right size, and attendees don’t feel lost in the crowd at our gatherings. This provides an ideal environment to build strong connections. Membership in the Leawood Chamber allows your organization to be associated with a growing and prosperous Chamber. In fact, The Leawood Chamber of Commerce ranked 10 in the Kansas City Business Journal’s list of Top Area Chambers of Commerce.
How can the Chamber help grow my business?
As with any endeavor, you will get more value out of your membership the more you utilize the Chamber’s many services. We provide you with multiple networking opportunities for you to grow your business. We receive a variety of inquiries from local residents, as well as out-of-towners, looking for services, and we provide them with a list of Chamber members. We refer Chamber members to people whenever we get the chance, and we encourage our membership to make fellow Leawood Chamber members their first choice for personal and business needs.
What are the benefits?
Our highly functional website gets around 8,000 – 9,000 unique visitors each month, and all members are listed in our online directory. Each member receives a free link to their web site, email contact information, and a convenient mapping feature that drives customers to their location. We also allow members to post special events, news announcements, product and service promotions and company profiles on our website; another way for members to showcase their business. FREE OF CHARGE.
Through the web site, the Chamber distributes a weekly Member Memo to over 1,200 business representatives. The Member Memo, along with the Chamber web site, provides members with advertising opportunities that will link consumers to their business.
The Chamber also produces two print publications each year for Chamber members, Leawood citizens, and visitors. The Community Resource Guide and Chamber Directories are distributed to each member business, as well as in new resident packets in cooperation with the City of Leawood. The “Where’s That?” Leawood Area Community Map is distributed not only through the Chamber office, but can also be found at Leawood City Hall and in various other businesses throughout the area.
We are also an advocate for our members with regards to local, county, state, and national legislation that affects our members and their employees. The Chamber often works with area economic development groups to help bring more businesses and more consumers to our members and our community.
How does the Chamber help me network?
The Chamber puts on frequent membership luncheon meetings to give members a chance to network and learn ways to improve their business, as well as to keep current on what’s going on in the community. Between 75 and 100 business and government leaders attend these meetings, so it is a great way for members to gain knowledge from each other.
Our monthly After Hours and Morning Mingling networking events provide opportunities to make business connections in a relaxed, social environment. These events are hosted by Chamber member businesses, so they also serve as a great marketing tool for the host, which drives 75-100 people thorough their doors.
Member businesses are encouraged to donate door prizes for these events, so attendees will remember their company and have a little something to take home with them too!
The Chamber’s Education programs provide educational opportunities for our members, as well as the local business community, to acquire the knowledge that will help them develop strong business skills and achieve success in the marketplace.
To build future leaders, the Chamber formed the Leawood Young Professionals group that meets once a month. If you are between the ages of 21-39 years old, wish to build your professional network, and give back to the community, Leawood Young Professionals is the group for you!
We participate in county-wide and metro-wide networking events with other area Chambers of Commerce to help our members connect with businesses from throughout the region.
The Chamber assists with Ground Breakings, Ribbon Cuttings, and Grand Openings for Chamber member businesses. We’ll help publicize these events on our web site, to help ensure that the event is a success. We provide the official oversized scissors and ribbon to make the day memorable!
A sponsorship is a great way for a business to connect with Chamber members and the Leawood community. We offer several options for members to stretch their marketing dollars and maximize their exposure.
Does the Chamber hold any special events?
The Chamber holds three special events each year. We host the Mayor’s State of the City Address in January, “A Taste of Leawood” in June, and the Annual Meeting in December. Each event is a great opportunity for members, non-member businesses, and community leaders to network.
Does being a Chamber member really make a difference?
Building Connections, Building Community is the Chamber’s mission to assist in making Leawood a great place to live, work, and do business. We make programs and services available to help area businesses enjoy business success.
Most importantly, our staff and volunteers participate in many community and government organizations, providing you and your business the representation you need, even when you can’t be there.
The Chamber and its Government Affairs Task Force work to make your voice heard in local government affairs. We work with other area chambers to lobby on your behalf in Topeka, so that we can make sure our members operate in the best environment possible. We’ve had several notable successes in recent years that have reduced the cost of doing business in Kansas.
The Chamber’s Economic Development Council receives updates on current Leawood projects, reports from the Director of Planning & Development for the City, as well as reports from various Economic Development Task Forces.
Those who make the most of their membership take advantage of the many resources the Leawood Chamber offers to our members. We recommend that Chamber members display their membership plaque in a visible location because it’s a great way to let customers know they are committed to our business community.
The success of your business is directly tied to the success of all businesses in and around Leawood. The Chamber’s mission is to promote your business, as well as the area business climate. By working together, we build connections and build community.
