Kansas City Royals outfielder Mark Teahen will host the “Mark Teahen…Challenge Your Fashion” fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kan.
Proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA of Greater Kansas City Challenger Division Baseball Program. Teahen, who serves as the Challenger spokesman, will be joined by teammates Billy Butler, David DeJesus, Joey Gathright, Esteban German, Alex Gordon, Zack Greinke, Mark Grudzielanek, Luke Hudson, Gil Meche, Tony Pena, Jr., and Ryan Shealy.
Along with mingling with guests, the players will be modeling fashions from Halls. Guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner and a fashion show along with silent and live auctions featuring one-of-a-kind sports experiences and memorabilia.
The Challenger Division of Little League Baseball was created in 1989 to remove the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field. The U.S. Government provides over $2 billion annually to hundreds of small, high-tech firms through the SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) and STTR (Small Business Tech Transfer and Research) programs. These programs are aimed at the development of early-stage, high-risk, high-payoff technologies in areas such as life sciences, information technology, manufacturing, defense, and homeland security. More than 1000 solicitations from various federal agencies are currently open, with proposals due between now and December 2008.
