The Leawood Chamber would like to notify our member businesses that they will soon be receiving an e-mail survey asking for your opinion about Johnson County and Kansas State priorities. The Leawood Chamber is teaming up with other chambers of commerce in Johnson County to ask the business member what you think about a variety of issues.
Additionally, a comprehensive survey is also being conducted of registered voters in the county. At the conclusion of these two surveys, we will be able to analyze the results for identified priorities throughout the County, and the parallels between the business community and registered voters.
These results will be analyzed for their impact on public policy at all levels of local, county, state and federal government. Results and priorities will be shared with investors, key constituents and all interested stakeholders, including elected officials, in addition to the public release of scan results.
We believe the results will be important to our future decision-making as an organization, and hope you will consider taking part in this important survey when it comes to your inbox. The subject line will read: Your Input Needed on Johnson County Issues.
Thank you in advance for your participation.

For week ending January 13, 2012
From Bob Vancrum, Kansas Government Affairs
The 2012 legislative session commenced Monday afternoon. The Governor’s state of the state address was given on Wednesday night. Without a doubt the Governor’s tax reform plan was the most discussed development of the week, but the 2013 budget recommendations are certain to also stir controversy.
The Governor’s tax reform plan was developed in close collaboration with Arthur Laffer, who had been one of President Reagan’s economists and is a firm believer that cuts in tax rates increase economic growth and actually increase revenue over the long run. The Governor’s tax plan is intended to make Kansas more competitive with surrounding states and to be “flatter, fairer, and simpler”. The following changes for 2013 are included.
• All state income tax would be eliminated on non-wage income distributed by LLC’s, subchapter S and proprietorships.
• The 3 current brackets would be cut to 2. The lowest would be reduced from 3.5% to 3% and the top from 6.45% to 4.9%, starting 2013.
• All itemized deductions and most income tax credits would be eliminated.
• Corporate income tax would be unchanged for 2013.
In addition, the Governor’s proposal reduces bo ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)
