It is estimated that at least one third of all women are affected by pelvic floor dysfunction in their lifetimes. Unfortunately many women who experience this condition are too embarassed to discuss it with their physician or mistakenly believe it is a normal side effect of childbirth and aging. In reality, there are many treatment options available.

Megan Sneed, MD, obstetrician-gynecologist with Contemporary Women's Care, will be sharing information on the most current advances in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction at St. Joseph Medical Center's Community Center for Health and Education in the Alex George Auditorium on Tuesday, January 26, 6:30-8:00 p.m. This event is open to the public; attendees should reserve their seats by calling 816-943-2584.

Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a wide range of conditions that occur when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weak or impaired due to childbirth, age or undiagnosed infections.

News & Announcements

Kansas Legislative Update 01-15-2010

The 2010 Legislative Session commenced with Governor Mark Parkinson’s first State of the State address to a joint senate and House meeting Monday night. The address can be found on the Governor’s website at (http://governor.ks.gov/media-room/speeches/551-01112010--state-of-the-state-2010). Even those legislators who didn’t like much of what he had to say agreed that it was very impressive. He’d given it with no teleprompter or notes, and clearly he was speaking clearly and passionately. He said it was impossible to reduce budgets by $400 million on top of $1 billion already cut without causing serious harm to many vital programs and responsibilities of the state.

Instead he proposed meeting the projected shortfall with a one cent (1%) increase in state sales tax for three years, plus an increase in tobacco tax from $0.79 per pack to $1.34 per pack.  He stated he would consider other revenue sources or tax exemption adjustments, but no spending reductions of that magnitude. In fact he budgeted for restoring the 10% cut in Medicaid providers’ rate and adding an increase of $50 per student in base state aid for K-12.

The Governor did fund continuation of the national cancer center designation in his budget, but reduced funding for the Kansas Bioscience Authority another $5 million. He also strongly endorsed (1)a consti ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)

All Natural Weight Loss Shot Now Available to the Public

 What are
Weight Loss Shots/Lipotropic Injections?

Leawood Chamber member, exclusiveMD,
offers insight regarding this weight loss shot:

"Lipotropics is just a fancy word for three amino acids that are essential for the health of your liver. Your liver is the organ responsible for removing fat and toxins from your body, so if it is healthier, it will work better for you. B12 gives you a huge energy boost, which helps you to burn calories. The vitamin cocktail included in the Lipotropic shots are compounds that enhance liver function and increase the flow of fats and bile from the liver and gallbladder. By definition, a lipotropic substance decreases the deposit, or speeds up the removal of fat (lipo = fat, tropic = stimulate) within the liver."

ExclusiveMD explains that the key components used to make these shots are: Vitamin B12, B-Complex, Vitamin C, Choline, Methione, and Inositol. All the main ingredients are NATURAL and are compounds found within the body. Vitamin B12 & B-Complex are essential for helping to form new, healthy cells in the body. It also boosts energy, helping to increase activity levels. It is an important part of a weight loss program because of its role in fatty acid synthesis and energy production. B6 vitamins also help metabolize fats and carbohydrates; help release energy from the nutrients and they have also bee ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)

On January 11th Menorah Medical Center became a major sponsor of Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, one of the most beloved and top tourist attractions in Johnson County and the state of Kansas, for 2010.  In addition to supporting this local treasure, Menorah is the presenting sponsor for the Farmstead’s Pumpkin Hollow event which takes place during the month of October and draws thousands of people from across greater Kansas City and outlying areas.
