Idiots' Open Golf Tournament

Cost: Registration fees are $75 a player, $300 for a team of four, $400 for hole sponsorship, and $600 for hole sponsorship plus a team. Registration fees include nine holes of golf with the option to finish the other nine holes after the tournament, brightly colored golf balls, hot lunch and coffee.

This winter tournament exemplifies the hospice spirit of making the most of every day. The event goes on no matter what the weather brings!

Funds raised from the tournament, silent, and live auctions will help provide comfort and care to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care patients and families.

Tournament is a four-person scramble format. The event is sponsored by Medical One.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center to Break Ground in Western Johnson County

Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony for its new western Johnson County facility – the Shawnee Mission Outpatient Pavilion at Prairie Star Parkway.  Speakers at the ceremony will include Samuel H. Turner, Sr., President & CEO; Lenexa Mayor Mike Boehm; and Medical Staff President Richard Arnspiger, II, MD.

The groundbreaking will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 3 p.m., at Shawnee Mission Outpatient Pavilion at Prairie Star Parkway, 23401 Prairie Star Parkway (95th Street) in Lenexa, Kan.

Serving Western Johnson County, the first phase of this new SMMC campus will include a 79,000-square-foot outpatient center and medical office building. Services offered at the facility will consist of an emergency department, surgery center, imaging center and physician offices. Total cost of the construction project is approximately $16 million. “We are aware of the need for high-level health care services in western Johnson County and are committed to filling the current void for its residents,” said Samuel H. Bliss Named Vice President at Shawnee Mission Medical Center

MERRIAM, Kan. – Ginger L. Bliss has been named Vice President for Planning, Marketing and Business Development at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC).

She joined SMMC in January 2000 and has been in the health care field for the past 10 years. Bliss is responsible for leading strategic planning, business development, physician recruitment, community relations, marketing and communications for the 383-bed hospital and its satellite locations. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications, as well as a master’s degree in health care administration.

In addition to her work at the Medical Center, Bliss serves as President-elect of the Blue Valley Educational Foundation, the philanthropic initiative of the Blue Valley School District, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Leawood Chamber of Commerce. She was named to the 2004 Ingram’s magazine list of 40 Under 40, which recognizes the top 40 up-and-coming business leaders under 40-years-old in the Kansas City metropolitan area, and completed the Leadership Overland Park training program for future community leaders.
