Featuring guest speaker Mike Brown, co-founder and CEO of Euronet Worldwide. Euronet's story is one of taking risks and targeting untapped resources to find success.

In 1994, Brown and Dan Henry, a commerical real estate broker, jumped on a plane and headed to Budapest, Hungary to see what kind of business opportunities they could find. They immediately noticed that they did not have some of the convienences we have here at home, such as quick access to cash. Though neither Brown nor Henry had any experience in the electronic transaction industry, they decided to take a chance and build an electronic payments infrastructure in Hungary. They immediately brought the convenience of ATMs to millions who had no access to credit or debit cards.

This journey to Hungary has turned into a billion dollar business venture for Brown and Henry. Euronet Worldwide currently operates the largest independent pan-European ATM network, as well as the largest shared ATM network in India and continues to grow steadily. Mike Brown's story of commitment, risk, and innovation is one we can draw inspiration from and relate to our own business ventures. Euronet Worldwide is a Leawood-based business on the rise, and we are thrilled to have Mike Brown featured as our keynote speaker.

Morning Mingling

This is a great chance to learn more about Sunrise Assisted Living, get some breakfast and network before you head to the polls to cast your vote. Leawood Chamber members and 'future' Chamber members are invited to join us at Sunrise's new facility. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win some great door prizes including a gift basket provided by our host.

We will have a networking bonus because members of the Northeast Johnson County Chamber are participating in this event with us. We will be building business connections with each other to develop new relations between our communities.

"Unlocking the Secrets of Success" - Laura Ward, with Dovetail Business Advisors, will walk through several areas that will increase the potential for success. Topics include factors of success, attitude development, interpersonal development, IDEAL Leader, and goal setting.

Presentation is from 8 - 9:30 a.m. with registration, coffee and pastries and general networking beginning at 7:45 a.m. Limited to the first 16 registrants. The reservation deadline for this event is November 2nd.

She will provide do's and don'ts on events that might occur when expanding your business to other cultures. You won't want to miss this informative presentation on how to stay ahead in today's changing business world and international relations.

Leawood Lions Pancake Days & Silent Auction

There will be a silent auction both days including items such as an autographed baseball signed by Royals 3rd baseman Mark Teahen, a Chiefs pennant signed by coach Herm Edwards, theater tickets, concert tickets, exercise equipment, and gift certificates for area restaurants. 

The proceeds support the Lion's Benevolent Fund, community activities, College Scholarship Program, Eyeglass Exam Program and the many donations they distribute to deserving charitable organizations throughout the year.

Please join us at Atlanta Bread Company for a wine tasting event to benefit Kansas City Hospice on Saturday, November 11, 2006.

Eight different wine & food pairings will be served. Seatings are at 4 pm & 5 pm and bottles of wine will be available to purchase. Atlanta Bread Company will donate $5 to Kansas City Hospice for each bottle purchased.

Marillac’s Enchanted Forest; a free public display of beautifully decorated trees and wreaths that will be on display at Union Station during a two-week silent auction, open to the public. All proceeds benefit children in our community with special, emotional and behavioral needs.

Marillac’s Enchanted Forest is open to the public for bidding from November 18th – December 2nd, 2006. Come to Union station this holiday season to buy your tree!

Shawnee Mission Medical Center Offers Drive-Thru Flu Shots

 It’s that time of year again!   With the cold and flu season quickly approaching, getting a flu vaccination is the single best way to prevent the disease.

The Medical Center Pharmacy will offer convenient drive-thru flu shots on Saturday, November 4, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  The location is in front of the Georgetown Medical Building on the campus of Shawnee Mission Medical Center, 8901 W. 74th Street in Merriam.  Patients won’t even need to get out of their cars to receive a vaccination and no appointment is necessary.

Cost in $25 per shot and must be paid in cash or check (no Medicare or insurance will be accepted). Patients must be 18-years-old or older to receive a vaccination.

Special Olympics Bowl-A-Thon & Silent Auction

The Blue Valley Blue Streaks Special Olympics team, under the guidance of the Blue Valley Recreation Commission (BVRC), is sponsoring its 18th Annual Bowl-A-Thon and Silent Auction to help financially support its team. The event is Saturday, Nov. 4, from 1-5 p.m. at AMF College Lanes in Overland Park.

Teams of bowlers as well as participants for the silent auction are needed for the event. Registration deadline for the Bowl-A-Thon is November 2nd. AMF College Lanes will provide rental shoes for each bowler. Each participant will bowl two games and may bowl from either 1-2:30 p.m. or 3:30-5 p.m.  Participants are asked to arrive at the bowling alley at least 15 minutes early before bowling.

Individuals bringing the minimum donation amount of $25 will receive an "I Care" package of goodies and are eligible to win prizes. To be eligible for prizes, all bowlers must collect a minimum of $25 in pledges and bring their donations to AMF College Lanes during the Bowl-A-Thon. There are several grand prizes awarded to the bowlers who collect the most money in donations; grand prizes range in value from $50 to more than $100 each.

Is it a Cold or the Flu will identify the difference between a head cold and the flu, what symptoms to look for, prevention, common treatments, and complications. Flu risk factors, the flu vaccine and more will be discussed at this Saint Luke’s for Seniors event.

Presented by Mary R. Forman, M.D. This free presentation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 9 - 10 a.m. at Saint Luke's South, 12300 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, in Conference Rooms A & B.
