Our guest speaker at this month's membership luncheon is Ron Rowe, Director of Small Group Sales for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC). For more than 12 years Ron has been responsible for various advertising, sales, and product development initiatives at Blue KC. He currently serves on the Blue KC Healthcare Reform Task Force Oversight Committee and Co-Chairs the company’s Health Care Reform Product and Pricing sub-committee. Ron has worked in the healthcare industry in both the insurance and provider segments for more than 25 years.

On September 10th, Chamber staff, representatives from the Board, Ambassador Committee members, and fellow Chamber members gathered at DEMDACO, Inc. for an informative Member Briefing.

It was a great opportunity for our new representatives to learn more about the Chamber and how to maximize the value of Chamber membership.

StickSisters Art Furnishings & Accents Ribbon Cutting

On September 16th the Leawood Chamber welcomed StickSisters Art Furnishings & Accents as a new member of the Chamber and the Leawood business community with a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their new location. Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn, Leawood Chamber members, and StickSisters staff were on hand for the festivities.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, StickSisters Art Furnishings & Accents celebrated their grand opening by hosting an amazing art show from local artist, Laura Nugent. Laura was most recently seen as the featured artist for the 2010 Prairie Village Art Fair.

Klein & Company Named Professional Service Firm of the Year

The Kansas Department of Commerce’s Office of Minority and Women Business Development has named Klein & Company as its Professional Service Company of the year. The announcement was made September 13, 2010.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by the state of Kansas with this prestigious award,” said Linda Klein, President & CEO of Klein & Company. “This honor is shared with our team and the wonderful clients we serve throughout the United States and Canada.”

The Kansas Department of Commerce hosted its 26th Annual Minority and Women Business Awards Luncheon on October 14, 2010, at noon at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka, Kansas, where Klein & Company received their award.

In addition to Klein & Company, the event recognized 11 other Kansas companies and three individuals for their support of women- or minority-owned businesses and their efforts toward creating opportunities.

Klein & Company is a medical education and communication company that provides services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. The company has been in business for over eight years. In addition to this honor, Klein & Company was named a “Top 25 Under 25” company in Kansas City in 2006.
