The U.S. Government provides over $2 billion annually to hundreds of small, high-tech firms through the SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) and STTR (Small Business Tech Transfer and Research) programs. These programs are aimed at the development of early-stage, high-risk, high-payoff technologies in areas such as life sciences, information technology, manufacturing, defense, and homeland security.
More than 1000 solicitations from various federal agencies are currently open, with proposals due between now and December 2007.
We invite you to participate in this 2-hour workshop to learn more about these federal grant funding opportunities and how to apply for them. Mr. Suman Saripalli, an SBIR/STTR program specialist with 12+ years of SBIR experience will be the presenter.

Aaron Douglas: African American Modernist is the first nationally touring retrospective to celebrate the art and legacy of Aaron Douglas (1899-1979), the foremost visual artist of the Harlem Renaissance. A native of Topeka, Kan., and a socially conscious artist, Douglas vividly captured the spirit of his time and established a new black aesthetic and utopian vision.
Lecture made possible by a grant from the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts.

The Leawood Lions will host their 53rd Annual Pancake Days event on Friday, October 19th from 11 AM to 7 PM and on Saturday, October 20th from 7 AM to 7 PM. The event will be held in the Oak Room at Leawood City Hall, 4800 Town Center Dr (117th & Roe).
This community pancake breakfast is attended by over 1,000 people. Guests enjoy a delicious meal of pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee. This event serves as one of the primary club fundraisers. As with all Lion fundraisers, 100% of the proceeds go to a special benevolence fund which allows the club to partake in many worthy charitable endeavors throughout the year. Benevolence funds are not used to run the day to day activities of the club.

Back in the Swing Retail Therapy, the signature fundraising event of the non-profit organization Back in the Swing which supports local breast cancer survivors, celebrates its fifth anniversary on Wednesday evening, Oct. 10. Everyone is invited to a free party at Hawthorne Plaza (southwest corner, 119th and Roe) where Back in the Swing Retail Therapy was launched in October 2003. This Special Premiere Night is presented by 435 South Magazine, Aristocrat Motors and 98.1 KUDL.
In its fifth year, there is a lot to celebrate as the greater Kansas City community has rallied around Back in the Swing. The event has grown from the participation of this single shopping center of about 40 stores to more than 32 shopping centers and stores and restaurants around town, all totaling more than 800 participating establishments across the greater Kansas City metro area.
Back in the Swing is dedicated to promoting joyful, healthy and proactive living after breast cancer through innovative fund-raising events, inspiring survivorship programs, and clinical research in an academic medical setting.
