Annual Meeting

Contact: Chamber Office – chamber@leawoodchamber.org 913-498-1514
Cost: $35 for members, $40 for non-members

Featuring guest speaker Mike Brown, co-founder and CEO of Euronet Worldwide. Euronet's story is one of taking risks and targeting untapped resources to find success.

In 1994, Brown and Dan Henry, a commerical real estate broker, jumped on a plane and headed to Budapest, Hungary to see what kind of business opportunities they could find. They immediately noticed that they did not have some of the convienences we have here at home, such as quick access to cash. Though neither Brown nor Henry had any experience in the electronic transaction industry, they decided to take a chance and build an electronic payments infrastructure in Hungary. They immediately brought the convenience of ATMs to millions who had no access to credit or debit cards.

This journey to Hungary has turned into a billion dollar business venture for Brown and Henry. Euronet Worldwide currently operates the largest independent pan-European ATM network, as well as the largest shared ATM network in India and continues to grow steadily. Mike Brown's story of commitment, risk, and innovation is one we can draw inspiration from and relate to our own business ventures. Euronet Worldwide is a Leawood-based business on the rise, and we are thrilled to have Mike Brown featured as our keynote speaker.

In addition to our speaker, the Leawood Chamber will present awards to outstanding individuals or businesses who have served the community in an extraordinary way. Open to the public, this event provides a way for the Chamber to connect area business and community leaders.

Chamber Networking Yields Unexpected Benefit

Think the Chamber is only about making connections for your own business?  Think again!  The benefits of the Chamber extend beyond making connections for your business and may be able to help out someone you know.

The following email we received demonstrates not only the benefits of being a Chamber member, but also how the Chamber works for you every day:

To show you that the Chamber certainly benefits many, I wanted to share a quick story.  After attending the orientation last Friday and hearing the Asst. General Manger from Let's Dish! talk, I found their services interesting.  That afternoon I was scanning through the Chamber newsletter that was e-mailed, and I saw Let's Dish!, so I clicked on it!  I then noticed that they were hiring.

My daughter, a senior in High School is interested in enrolling in the Culinary program at JCCC when she graduates.  I thought that this would be a great opportunity for her for weekends.  I e-mailed them, and Kenneth, the G.M., responded quickly.  I talked to my daughter about it, she filled out an application and will be interviewed Saturday.

Families Invited to Participate in Shawnee Mission Medical Center's Service of Remembrance

When a baby dies during a pregnancy or soon after birth, there are often few opportunities for parents and families to memorialize the short life of their baby. To help parents through this difficult time, Perinatal Bereavement Services at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) will host a special service for families who have experienced the loss of an infant or pregnancy.

A Service of Remembrance will be Sunday, October 8, 1 p.m., at SMMC’s Par Course picnic shelter, east of the hospital, 9100 W. 74th Street. The service will include special readings, poems, music and a balloon release. In addition, each baby will be remembered individually.

“Because October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, families find it healing to remember and honor their baby, whether lost through ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death,” said Eileen Connell, RN, SMMC Perinatal Bereavement Coordinator. “Whether they lost their baby last month or 10 years ago, families benefit from taking time to reflect on what they’ve experienced.”

Access the Par Course picnic shelter by using the stairs to the south of the shelter. In case of ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)
