Building on the strength of its existing cardiology team, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) welcomed Heart Health, PA (HHP), November 1. Through this partnership, the HHP locations in Leavenworth and Kansas City, Kan., along with several outreach clinics, have become Shawnee Mission Cardiology Associates.
Cardiologists Kiritkumar V. Masrani, MD, FACC, and David L. Robbins Jr., MD, FACC, who were on staff at SMMC prior to the transition, have taken an active role in the community by collaborating with local hospitals and EMS to meet national acute cardiac quality recommendations.
“Dr. Masrani and Dr. Robbins are well regarded by their loyal, well-established patient base throughout Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties,” said Samuel H. Turner, President & CEO. “We are honored for the opportunity to continue providing hospital care to their patients. This decision also aligns with our goal of building a regional cardiac program.”
SMMC has received the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Get With The Guidelines Gold Sustained Performance Achievement Recognition for Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart Failure and Stroke.
In addition, SMMC qualified for AHA’s Mission: Lifeline Recognition for heart attack care. In 2010, the hospital once again achieved Chest Pain Center Accreditation for another three years and was designated a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers.
... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)Jack Wagner has been appointed by Adventist Health System as the interim President/CEO for Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Wagner, who currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Shawnee Mission Medical Center, will officially begin dual responsibilities at the 504-bed facility on Monday, December 5, 2011 and will remain in the position until a permanent replacement is found.
"The Board of Trustees for Shawnee Mission Medical Center is pleased that Jack has accepted to serve in this role,” said Rich Reiner, Board Chairman and president and CEO of the Adventist Health System Multi-State Division. “Jack is a seasoned healthcare executive and since he is already serving in a senior leadership position there it makes for a seamless transition that provides continuity and consistency as we search for the next CEO," added Reiner.
Sam Turner, the hospital’s current President/CEO, announced last month that he will retire on December 2, 2011 after serving 11 years at the hospital.
The process by which Adventist Health System selects a permanent replacement will be discussed with Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s Board of Trustees on November 29.
