Join us in celebrating "The Spirit of Entrepreneurship" at the 2009 Leawood Chamber Annual Meeting and Hall of Fame Awards luncheon.
This two hour event is open to the public and provides a way for the Chamber to connect with 300 area business and community leaders. Our scheduled guest speaker is Cindy Reynolds, Co-owner of Somerset Ridge Vineyard & Winery.
Long time Leawood residents, Cindy and Dennis Reynolds, co-founded Somerset Ridge Vineyard & Winery, a premium artisanal winery located in the rolling hills south of Johnson County. They planted the vineyard in 1998, and have been instrumental in the development of our area as a thriving grape-growing and winemaking hub in the Midwest.
For the last three years, Cindy served as President of Guys' Snacks Corporation, in addition to her duties as co-owner of Somerset. In her role at Guy's Snacks, she focused on building and bringing back a venerable Midwestern brand and gained product placement in thousands of retail grocery stores across the country. She found the lessons of the grocery industry to be relevant to her work at the winery. Somerset has been a growing, thriving business and their wines can be found in more than 60 retail liquor stores in Kansas City, as well as a growing list of independent restaurants. Due to its success, Cindy made the transition to working for Somerset full time.
Currently, Cindy serves as the incoming board chair of the Johnson County Library Foundation, is a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Mo, and has held board positions with the Kansas City Museum, Children's Therapeutic Learning Center, The American Red Cross and The Family Conservancy. This year she was honored by the Kauffman Foundation as on of the 2009 Kansas City Women Who Mean Business.

Americans dispose of a multitude of used electronic devices. In fact, 2006 alone saw almost three million tons, or 6 billion pounds, discarded. Electronic items such as computers, TVs, and cell phones frequently contain small, but significant amounts of hazardous or toxic substances such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and beryllium which can leach out into the environment when disposed of improperly.
Unwanted electronics also contain materials of high value such as gold, copper, and silver which is wasted when the user of the device bypasses recycling and sends the item straight to the trash. Over the past four years Overland Park has sponsored 7 recycling events and netted more than 407,000 pounds of unwanted electronics, including more than 2,800 monitors and 2,250 printers.
This November, the cities of Overland Park, Mission Hills, Leawood, and Prairie Village are teaming up to sponsor another event where you can easily recycle electronics, working or non-working, that you no longer need.
The event will be held

8:00 am to 2:00 pm
