Join us in celebrating "The Spirit of Entrepreneurship" at the 2010 Leawood Chamber Annual Meeting and Hall of Fame Awards luncheon.

This two hour event is open to the public and provides a way for the Chamber to connect with 300 area business and community leaders. Our scheduled guest speaker is entrepreneur Gene Bicknell.

Gene Bicknell is the founder of 5 companies: NPC International Inc., the world’s largest Pizza Hut Franchisee with 1,100 stores and 35,000 employees nationwide; Pitt Plastics, Inc., manufacturer of polyethylene can liners and other types of packaging and storage bags; National Mills, Inc., manufacturer of t-shirts and provider of other screen printing services; Zouire, national promotional apparel and supplies company; and M.S. Productions, Inc., an oil development and reserve operation. Gene also founded the O. Gene Bicknell Center for Entrepreneurship in the Pittsburg State University College of Business.

Each year SAFEHOME provides a Holiday Store for its clients. SAFEHOME collects new holiday gift items from generous individuals and businesses from the local area.

Clients of SAFEHOME are able to shop for free for their loved ones in a donated retail storefront located in central Johnson County. This is a very important program because it allows domestic violence survivors the opportunity to choose gifts for their family members when they might not have the means to do so otherwise. In 2009, gifts provided by the community through the Holiday Store benefited over 570 women and children.

Santa will be visiting the Red Bridge Family YMCA on Saturday, December 11th from 10 am - 12 pm.

All children will have their picture taken with Santa, write him a letter with their wishes, decorate cookies to take home, make an ornament for the tree, and more! All pictures will be sent electronically to each family, so you can make as many or as few as you want. Goodies for adults too!

Self-Defense Training

This training, for females ages 12 and up, is a living legacy in honor of 19-year-old Ali Kemp who was murdered in 2002 at an area pool. Helps raise awareness and gives women self-protection skills. Pre-registration required.

Grand Opening of Elite Squad Tennis Club!

On November 4th, members of the Overland Park, Olathe, and Leawood Chambers of Commerce gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Elite Squad Tennis Club with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Elite Squad Tennis Club is a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor tennis facility. Memberships, court time and training is available for all ages and skill levels.

DanceWorks Conservatory

On August 23, 2010, DanceWorks Conservatory at 13149 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, celebrated its grand re-opening which introduced, along with the same outstanding professional instructors, updated renovations and new owners!

The studio, which is celebrating its 20th school year, offers an extensive array of dance, theatre, and fitness instruction for students of all ages including Creative Movement (Preschool), Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Drama, Aerial Silks, and Pilates. Known for their outstanding classical ballet program, and for providing highly professional teachers, DanceWorks Conservatory has created quite a buzz within the dance community for the past 20 years.

The new owners Joseph Hamrick and Nicole Merrill are honored to carry on the tradition that was set in place all those years ago all while adding their own twist to the studio - taking it into where the future of dance lies. Joe and Nicole have been submerged in the dance industry for over 15 years. They both attended Oklahoma City University’s nationally recognized dance program, and then went on to pursue professional careers in dance.
