Idiots' Open Golf Tournament

Cost: Registration fees are $75 a player, $300 for a team of four, $400 for hole sponsorship, and $600 for hole sponsorship plus a team. Registration fees include nine holes of golf with the option to finish the other nine holes after the tournament, brightly colored golf balls, hot lunch and coffee.

This winter tournament exemplifies the hospice spirit of making the most of every day. The event goes on no matter what the weather brings!

Funds raised from the tournament, silent, and live auctions will help provide comfort and care to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care patients and families.

Tournament is a four-person scramble format. The event is sponsored by Medical One.

Merriam Historic Plaza hosts book signing!

MERRIAM, KANSAS -- Merriam Historic Plaza & Visitors Bureau will host a book signing with Myra Jenks and Irene B. French, authors of the newly released Historic Merriam:  The History of Merriam, Kansas.

The book signing will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 in the meeting room of the Historic Plaza, which is located at Shawnee Mission Parkway & Eby in Merriam (across from the Drury Inn and Denny’s).

Historic Merriam:  The History of Merriam is a tribute to the rich history of this unique community.  The hard-cover, coffee-table book traces the history of Merriam from the days of pre-settlement to current day.

Published by Merriam resident, Mike Downs of Publishing Specialists, Inc., the book has been a labor of love for Myra and Irene who have been diligently writing, researching and collecting articles, photos and information to include in the project since early 2005.

Copies will be available just in time for holiday gifts!  Those who attend the book signing reception will be able to purchase an autographed copy for just $24.95.  After January 1, 2007, the book price will be $32.00.

SAFEHOME In Need of Holiday Donations

 OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Each year SAFEHOME provides a Holiday Store for its clients. SAFEHOME collects new holiday gift items from generous individuals and businesses from the local area. Clients of SAFEHOME are able to shop for their loved ones in a donated retail storefront located in central Johnson County. This is a very important program because it allows domestic violence survivors the opportunity to choose gifts for their family members when they might not have the means to do so otherwise.

To make a donation and receive information about the drop-off location, please call the administrative office at 913-432-9300 and talk to Michele.

SAFEHOME is Johnson County’s only provider of services for victims of domestic violence.  Services include a 40-bed shelter, 24-hour crisis hotline, job and housing advocacy, court advocacy, transitional living assistance, individual and group therapy, and a children’s center.
