Durrie Vision Offers Gift of Sight

Durrie Vision Offers the Gift of Sight

In the spirit of the season, Durrie Vision is offering a life changing gift to a few lucky individuals. Durrie Vision is proud to announce the establishment of the Gift of Sight, a Holiday Event that hopes to enhance the vision of neighbors among us who need it the most.

In January, Dr. Daniel Durrie will perform free laser vision correction procedures on 3 patients chosen by staff members as a result of a write-in nomination campaign. “We know that for some people, there are barriers to having laser vision correction. This program helps us give back to our community by allowing the community to select friends and neighbors that they feel need it the most,” says Dr.Durrie.

While some nominees may not otherwise be able to afford laser vision correction, others may have living working conditions that make wearing corrective lenses nearly impossible. “Financial need is only one aspect in what we will consider in the process,” says Dr. Durrie. “Some people have other life-challenges that may be lightened by laser vision correction.” “We trust that the people in the communities we serve understand who could benefit most from a program like this. That’s why we’ve placed the nomination process in their hands” says Dr. Durrie. “Everyone who submits reasons why someone they know deserves vision correction ... DEVICE SEALS HOLES IN HEART WITHOUT SURGERY

DEVICE SEALS HOLES IN HEART WITHOUT SURGERY

Menorah Medical Center physician is first in hospital to implant a cardiac patch developed to
prevent people from suffering certain kinds of strokes, and in the future, possibly migraines.

Like all babies, William Rexrot was born with a hole in his heart. But unlike most, the hole never closed properly after his birth. Last week, he discovered the tiny opening after he suffered from a stroke one week ago.

The opening, known as the patent foramen ovale (PFO), is a normal part of fetal development. But in about one in four people, the hole does not close properly, letting blood cross from one side of the heart to the other, increasing a person’s risk of dangerous blood clots and stroke.

Until recently, the only treatment option was long-term drug therapy with blood thinners, such as coumadin, or open-heart surgery to close the hole. But a new procedure introduced at Menorah Medical Center this week sealed Rexrot’s heart in less than an hour – without surgery or general anesthesia.

“When I heard about this new patch, I was definitely excited,” said Roxrot, 79, of Salina, Kan. In most cases when medication doesn’t help, patients face the risk of becoming totally paralyzed by another stroke or to have open-heart surgery. The patch Rexrot is referring to is ... In Economic Booms & Busts, Chamber Membership Matters!

When business forecasts look bright many businesses are anxious to support the local community and advertise their company via membership in their local chamber of commerce. Coming up with the extra funds to belong isn’t that difficult, so naturally they join the chamber.

Then the dark clouds appear and the business forecast looks grim. Belts must tighten, and businesses look for ways to trim costs. Like any other expense, a business considers whether their chamber membership is needed.

While no company should continue their chamber membership if their situation is dire, sometimes people forget the reasons why they should belong to a chamber of commerce.

Do you still need to network?
Over the course of a month, at least 225 people attend Leawood Chamber events. Over the course of a year, the Leawood Chamber adds 90 – 100 new member organizations. Attending chamber events is an excellent way to get to know a large group of professionals in the community.

Do you still need to advertise?
You can advertise specials on the Leawood Chamber’s Member MarketPlace, promote events via the Chamber’s Community Calendar, and share your news and announcements via the Chamber’s web site. Also, you can submit a profile featuring your organization. And there’s no additional cost – This advertising is included in the cost of ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)
