The U.S. Government provides over $2 billion annually to hundreds of small, high-tech firms through the SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) and STTR (Small Business Tech Transfer and Research) programs. These programs are aimed at the development of early-stage, high-risk, high-payoff technologies in areas such as life sciences, information technology, manufacturing, defense, and homeland security. More than 1000 solicitations from various federal agencies are currently open, with proposals due between now and December 2008.

In this workshop learn more about these federal grant funding opportunities and how to apply for them.

Presented by Mr. Suman Saripalli, an SBIR/STTR program specialist with 13+ years of SBIR experience.

International Effort Produces TV Spot in Kansas City

In November, 2007, far flung forces gathered at IBT Media Kansas City to promote pink petunias. Theo Gabay, whose company, Appetite in Gothenburg, Sweden, joined forces with a bunch of flowers from Florida, on-camera talent and extras from Kansas City to creatively produce a novel idea. The result was a thirty second television commercial that urged viewers to "accept the gardener" in themselves.

This production marked Mr. Gabay's return to IBT Media. He had worked with the group on a marketing video for SKF in 2005 and chose to return to Kansas City and work with them again on this vastly different project. The television ad uses humor to sell WAVE Petunias by Ball Horticultural.

In the commercial, WAVE addicts meet and confess their obsession with the flowers. The "Twelve Step" program on the wall helps them accept their irresistible urge to plant WAVE petunias. The entire cast wore pink outfits, which were accessorized by WAVE’s patented pink pots, worn as hats. The actors sit in a half circle, emulating group therapy.
