The Oxford School docents will host “Holiday Traditions on the Prairie at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse” on Saturday, December 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The historic one-room Oxford School is located in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, KS.

Learn about holiday celebrations on the plains at the turn of the twentieth century. Enjoy refreshments, play games and make crafts based on the holidays of yesteryear. Help string popcorn and cranberries. Join the costumed docents in decorating the tree and singing songs from the past. Old-time musician Scott Klamm will play traditional American instruments including mountain dulcimer, Appalachian mouth bow, auto harp, guitar and mandolin.

If you are attending the Breakfast with Santa at the Lodge in Ironwoods Park, please visit the schoolhouse while you are in the park. The Prairie Oak Nature center will also hold an open house on this date.

All Oxford School programs and events are coordinated through the Leawood Historic Commission and Leawood Parks & Recreation Department. The Oxford School docents encourage people of all ages to attend. Admission is free.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be holding the 9th annual “Breakfast with Santa” at The Lodge at Ironwoods Park. They hope you'll join them on Saturday, December 5 from 8:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m. (Session I) or 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (Session II) for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, provided by the Leawood Kiwanis Club.

All participants will create a holiday craft. New this year, get your picture taken with Santa and view it online at http://www.leawood.org. Pictures will be available to print for FREE from the Leawood website shortly after the event. Pictures will not be given on site. Don’t forget to bring your wish list! The Parks and Recreation Mascot will also be on hand to greet kids and help Santa. While you’re at the park be sure to stop by the Oxford School House (FREE Admission) for “Holiday Traditions on the Prairie”. Jill Hathaway of J. Hathaway Shoe Boutique Elected to National Board

Congratulations to Leawood Chamber member, Jill Hathaway, for her recent election to the National Shoe Retailers Association Board of Directors.
 
Hathaway currently has two retail operations: Hathaway Shoe, a Euro comfort shoe store in the Waldo area of Kansas City, MO and J. Hathaway Shoe Boutique, a sophisticated boutique location in Leawood, KS. Jill left bank management for a career in sales. After gaining experience with two accessories companies, she focused on footwear, and spent several years with H.H. Brown. She opened her own store after she and her husband started their family. Hathaway regularly participates in Kansas City fashion shows, health expos and charity events; Hathaway Shoe received the Kansas City A-List Award as the best shoe store in the area, and she has been named to the 2008-09 “Women of Excellence” registry by the National Association of Professional & Executive Women.


 

Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network Now Accepting Applications for New Board Members

Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network (JoCoIHN) is a local non-profit that helps homeless families in their greatest time of need by providing compassionate assistance with housing, food and social services through our vast network of interfaith congregations.

JoCoIHN is now accepting applications for new board members. They are seeking individuals who can contribute their time and talents in the area of general oversight, marketing and P.R., corporate fund-raising and more.
