2007 Legislative Breakfast Series

The Leawood Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Public Policy Council sponsor the Legislative Breakfast Series to enhance the communication and exchange of information between the business community and the Johnson County state legislative delegation. Legislators will be on hand to discuss issues and offer the most current legislative updates. All meetings will take place at the Ritz Charles in Overland Park, 9300 West 137th Street. Casual attire is requested. Breakfast will be served promptly at 7:30 a.m.

"Getting 3-5 Referrals from your Clients/Centers of Influence" - Dan Stalp with Brooks Associates will present this highly interactive session, which will allow you to brainstorm and question why your are not asking for referrals. We'll discuss how asking and getting referrals can revolutionize your business. We'll give you tools to "drill down" to what you want and need in terms of referrals.

Presentation is from 8 - 9:30 a.m. with registration, coffee and pastries and general networking beginning at 7:45 a.m. Limited to the first 16 registrants. Cost: $15 for members, $20 for non-members

Pok-Chi Lau, a professor of design at the University of Kansas will be the lecturer. Professor Lau will speak about his experiences leading a study abroad group of KU students to China and the subsequent Spencer Museum of Art exhibition.

Made in China offers a unique window on the world’s manufacturing epicenter, as seen through the eyes – and digital cameras – of 24 multidisciplinary KU students and two Department of Design faculty members. The group made a month-long pilgrimage to China in summer 2006.

Most Eligible Bachelors Charity Event

435 South Magazine will host its first-ever Most Eligible Bachelors Event at Bonefish Grill in Leawood to benefit Marillac.

The party follows the release of the February issue of 435 South magazine, showcasing 11 of the areas most eligible and successful men.

Your $15 donation at the door will cover the evening’s festivities—mingling with the bachelors, complementary appetizers, entry into a drawing for great giveaways donated by the events’ merchants and a fashion show by trendy south Johnson County boutiques such as Bella B’s Boutique, Will Wyatt’s Cowboy Couture, Ambiance, Karats Jewelers and Style & Grace. The event will include a cash bar.  One hundred percent of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Marillac.

Marillac is a private, not-for-profit agency located in Overland Park Kansas providing residential treatment, psychiatric hospital services, outpatient services and alternative schooling for children ages 6 through 17 with special emotional and behavioral needs. Marillac’s mission is to provide troubled children and families hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Kauffman's iBridge Network launched at DEMO 2007.

The iBridge Network Web site allows universities to gain worldwide exposure for their research materials, technologies, and discoveries in an online, easy-to-search forum. Tools include tagging, bookmarking, note taking, and smart searches, and users can purchase and license the product right from the site.

Universities use the iBridge Web site to license and distribute software, research tools, databases, teaching materials, surveys, and reference materials. Universities post their research using online forms, or "plug and play" integration with existing data systems, enabling them to post more research. This dynamic, real-time exchange of ideas and innovations across multiple universities has the potential to spawn a host of cutting-edge technology, products, and services that might otherwise never be launched.

2nd Annual Chamber Basketball Shoot-Out!  New this year, the two shoot-out finalists with the first and second highest score will SHOOT-IT-OUT during halftime of the 6 p.m. NAIA Semi-final game.  Twelve chambers competed in the inaugural event last year! 

David Pruente, director of membership for the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, won by a basket, scoring 36 points. Will the reigning champion return?  A traveling trophy and bragging rights are on the line!
