2007 State of the County Address

The Leawood Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Chairman of the Board Annabeth Surbaugh cordially invite you to attend the 2007 State of the County Address. In conjunction with the Johnson County Public Policy Council. This will also be a great opportunity to network with members and other chambers throughout the area.

The cost is $28 / person, or $275 for a table of 8. Advanced reservations and payment are required. Please RSVP and send payment by 5pm on Tuesday, March 20th. We are unable to refund on cancellations received after the registration deadline. Unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate walk ups at this event. The Chamber accepts checks, Visa, Discover, Mastercard and American Express. Make checks payable to the Leawood Chamber of Commerce.

Our newest Chamber members will be presented in our quarterly "Chamber Debut". Each attendee will receive a business card and a description from each business that has joined the Leawood Chamber in the past 90 days.

This month, Thomas Thornton, the first president and CEO of the Kansas Bioscience Authority, will present a short program. Thomas joins the KS Bioscience Authority with a strong background in business and economic development. He will talk about his background and provide his thoughts and ideas on how this group will guide the state in its bioscience investments. You won't want to miss this informative presentation!

The meeting will start with lunch, followed by the "Chamber Debut" and our guest speaker for the day.

2007 Legislative Breakfast Series

The Leawood Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Public Policy Council sponsor the Legislative Breakfast Series to enhance the communication and exchange of information between the business community and the Johnson County state legislative delegation. Legislators will be on hand to discuss issues and offer the most current legislative updates. All meetings will take place at the Ritz Charles in Overland Park, 9300 West 137th Street. Casual attire is requested. Breakfast will be served promptly at 7:30 a.m.

This workshop covers the term sheet and helps entrepreneurs understand how to value their business when raising capital. Topics covered include offering terms, factors that affect valuation, valuation by life stage, and valuation methodologies. The workshop also assists entrepreneurs in preparing an actual valuation for their business.

The City of Leawood, Parks and Recreation Department seeks applicants for an Administrative Assistant position to: provide administrative support for the Parks & Recreation Department, seek advertising contracts for the program guide, manage the front desk and registration operations, complete all personnel activities for the department and coordinate bill payment/purchase requisition process including contracts, as well as monitoring and reconciling same. 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field or equivalent job experience required.  Must have two (2) years experience with Word and Excel.  Must know basic accounting principles. 

Starting rate of pay: $15.32 per hour.  Must be available to work 2 evenings per month for committee meetings.  City residency not required.  Offers of employment conditional upon passing appropriate tests including a drug screen.
