Luncheon - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion GMM090210

Feb. 10, 2009, 11:30am at Ritz Charles Overland Park, Inc., 9000 W. 137th Street, Overland Park, 66221
Cost: $22 members (paid in advance), $32 non members.

In an ever-changing global marketplace, it is becoming increasingly important that businesses become educated about issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

As we learned at our July membership meeting presentation by the Kanas City Area Development Council's KC 2.0 group, a key factor in employment decisions for today's young professional is the diversity and inclusiveness of the work environment and the community. This month's program is designed to give our members an example of how a local institution is taking steps to incorporate this in their business.

Our guest speaker at this month's luncheon is Danny Alexander, the Interim Multicultural Center Program Director in Johnson County Community College's new Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Their goal is to create an educational and professional experience that is diverse, integrated, and excellent in all dimensions.

Danny is also a Professor of English and a faculty sponsor of the newly formed Hispanic Student Organization at JCCC. In the early 90s, he helped found the Kansas City Missouri Union of the Homeless, the Kansas Music Alliance and the Greater Kansas City Coalition Against Censorship. For over a decade he has worked with the national Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, which takes its name and mission from the works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In addition to an insightful program, our newest Chamber members will be presented in our quarterly "Chamber Debut". Each attendee will receive a business card and a description from each business that has joined the Leawood Chamber in the past 90 days.

We will be serving Chicken Marsala for lunch. Please contact the Chamber office if you have any special dietary needs.

College Nannies & Tutors

College Nannies, the nation's largest nanny resource, Builds Stronger Families™ by offering a complete set of nanny placement, on-call nannies and professional babysitting services that lead to happy children and successful students.

College Nannies & Tutors began in 2000 when business student Joseph Keeley took a job as a nanny in Edina, Minnesota. As a nanny, Keeley realized that he was more than a babysitter, but rather an "Active Role Model" for the children. He recognized a need for a unique and specialized service that connected parents with safe and reliable nannies & tutors or role models. He found these role models in current college students, college graduates and certified teachers looking to make a positive difference through their jobs working with children and adolescents. The College Nannies & Tutors organization has since expanded to become the nation's largest nanny and tutor resource.

The Overland Park Placement Center serves the Kansas City, Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, and surrounding communities. They are a full service agency providing Full-Time Nannies, Part-Time Nannies, Summer ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for complete profile)
