On Wednesday, March 9, 2011, the Johnson County Public Policy Council held a meet and greet with the candidates for the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees. All Chamber members and the community at large were invited to attend.
The event gave attendees an opportunity to informally network with the candidates, hear a short presentation from each of them, and have a chance to ask questions on a one-on-basis.
Due to time constraints and only being able to ask one question, the candidates were asked to fill out a more in-depth questionnaire that would be made available to the public. Please click below on the candidate's name to view the questions and their responses. The second link under each person's name is the video of their presentations from the meet and greet.

Legislative Report for the Leawood Chamber of Commerce
For week ending March 4, 2011
By Bob Vancrum, Consultant
This was turnaround week in the legislature- a midpoint break regularly scheduled to give staff a chance to catch up. Although fewer committee meetings were held, there was some interesting action and non - action.
The stalemate over the Governor’s budget proposals for the current year continues. The house is asking for borrowing from KPERS to close the special education funding shortfall to maintain federal aid and the Senate is refusing. The bill repealing last year’s one cent sales tax increase, HB 2019, was called up for action by its Chair. He had to ask for a motion to pass the bill several times before anyone would speak up or move and second it. When they did the Chairman called for a voice vote and declared the motion passed. It is fairly clear to even those who ran on such promise that adding $350 million to the state’s $500 million budget gap this year won’t work. The Governor has already said he does not favor the repeal. It will be interesting to see what the Speaker does with the bill on the House floor.
The House Tax Committee also acted upon revisions of the PEAK Program (HB2220). It was substantially expanded to include all small businesses showing any growth in total employees over the highest number of employees over the last 10 years. This was ... The recent marketing rebrand of the Country Club Plaza has been named one of the world’s most effective rebrands by the 2011 REBRAND 100® Global Awards.
Engineering the rebranding effort was the Plaza’s advertising agency, The Collaboration, a 10-year old, integrated marketing and creative group headquartered in Kansas City’s Crossroads District. This accolade is the highest recognition for excellence in brand repositioning, and is the first and only worldwide program of its kind. The focal point of the new iconography is a stylized illustration of some of the Plaza’s distinctive Spanish-inspired architecture and towers.
However, David Marks, Collaboration Principal adds “to be successful, this rebrand campaign required much more than simply revamping the Plaza’s logo. It had to inspire audiences to see The Plaza in a fresh, new light.”
Since 2001, The Collaboration has handled branding, marketing and creative assignments for dozens of local and regional clients, and currently serves as agency of record for Tivol, Lathrop & Gage, LLP, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Durrie Vision and the Country Club Plaza.
