International Investing Seminar

Apr. 1, 2008, 6:00pm at Waddell & Reed, Inc., 6900 College Blvd., Ste. 740, Overland Park, 66211
Contact: Cindy Huynh – chuynh@wradvisors.com 913-491-9202

Nedra E. Mitchell, CFP®, a District Supervisor with Waddell & Reed, Inc., will present an investment seminar discussing the potential investment opportunities that exist abroad.

International investing involves additional risks, including currency fluctuations, political or economic conditions affecting the foreign country, and differences in accounting standards and foreign regulations. These risks are magnified in emerging markets. Diversification cannot ensure a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market. Investors should consider the investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses of a fund carefully before investing.

There will be ample time for questions and a light dinner. There is no charge for attending this seminar. Guests are welcome.

Economic Development Council Updates Web-based Resource

One of the keys to a successful business recruitment and retention program for any community is making sure that demographic and community information is readily accessible on the web, 24-hours a day.

The Leawood Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council has recently invested significant resources to provide businesses thinking of relocating to Leawood important information about this outstanding community.  Leawood’s “Community Profile”, along with available business properties and building sites, can be found on the Economic Development page, in the Site Selector and Employer Resources section, on the Leawood Chamber website.

For more information contact Kevin Jeffries, Chamber President & CEO, at kevinj@leawoodchamber.org or 913-498-1514.

Do the Best Companies Join Chambers of Commerce?

The best places to work tend to belong to their local chamber of commerce, according to a recent study by the American Chamber of Commmerce Executives (ACCE).  Of Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in the United States and Canada this year, 94 are members of their local chamber, including all of the top 24.

"This 'Best Companies to Work For' information is one more indication that the best companies tend to be chamber members," according to ACCE President Mick Fleming. "If a company cares about its employees, there's a good chance it also cares about its community and the chamber is the way that great employers invest in both."

Consumers seem to expect chamber members to be better-than-average companies. A study by the Atlanta-based Schapiro Group last August found that consumers are 63 percent more likely to buy products from companies that they believe are chamber members.
