The Leawood Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Public Policy Council will sponsor the Legislative Breakfast Series to enhance the communication and exchange of information between the business community and the Johnson County state legislative delegation. Legislators will be on hand to discuss issues and offer the most current legislative updates.

Featuring: Senators Rob Olson and Tim Owens
Representatives Brett Hildabrand, Lance Kinzer and Kay Wolf

Speaker Schedule to be announced, and is subject to change.

All meetings will be held at the Ritz Charles Overland Park, 9000 West 137th Street, and casual attire is requested. Breakfast will be served promptly at 7:30 a.m.

Join The Global Orphan Project for a morning of fun and exercise at the second-annual GO Project Family 5K and Fox Hunt. Again this year, all runners who catch Mike Fox will be eligible to win one of many prizes.

New this year, Team Challenge, where you and your friends can run for the kids! See below how you can form your own team.

Finally, stay for breakfast and kids’ activities immediately following the race. Great prizes will be provided for the top competitors overall, age group winners, and also for the team who raises the most support for the kids.

Registration includes: T-shirt, 1 ticket to the post-race breakfast, a race bag and aid stations. Kids’ Fun Run (12 and under): This FREE event does not require registration. However, kids will need to purchase a ticket for the breakfast, available the morning of the race, and will not receive a t-shirt. Extra t-shirts are available for purchase on the registration form.

The Leawood Parks and Recreation Department and the National Bank of Kansas City are proud to sponsor the 18th Annual “Eggstravaganza” Egg Hunt at Leawood City Park (10601 Lee Blvd.) on Sunday, April 17.

Lunch and activities will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. the egg hunt will begin. Children will fill their baskets with colorful plastic eggs loaded with goodies. The event is “free” for all participants with plenty of eggs for everyone!

Activities for children will include a balloon artist, face painter and pictures with the Easter Bunny. The Leawood Kiwanis Club will be serving a Hot Dog Lunch at the Lion’s Shelter (hot dog $2, chips $1, and drink $1).

Our speaker this year is Pam Morgan. Pam and her husband, Phil, are a nationally known gospel music group. Driving home from a performance in 2000, Pam was very seriously injured in an automobile accident that left her with a broken neck and certain paralysis. A year later she was up and walking. She has been the subject of numerous magazine and newspaper articles including “Women’s World” and “Purely Music.” She has appeared on a number of television programs, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Montel Williams, Only a Miracle, and The 700 Club.

You will not want to miss this inspiring and entertaining speaker. She will be available after the event to autograph here latest book, “I Stand.”

Two SMMC Facilities Designated as Institutes of Quality Bariatric Surgery

Aetna has determined that Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) and Shawnee Mission Prairie Star Surgery Center have met the requirements for designation as Institutes of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facilities. Hospitals receiving this designation must meet specific criteria for clinical performance and overall value of the facility.

SMMC and the Prairie Star Surgery Center will now be listed on DocFind®, Aetna’s online provider directory. Aetna is a national health insurance and related benefits provider. Reviews of designations are performed by Aetna every two years.
