'A Taste of Leawood,' one of the area's premier events, where you can enjoy a casual evening of music, spirits, and culinary splendor from 25 of the area's finest establishments under the stars in the Leawood City Hall Courtyard.

The Leawood Chamber is pleased to announce that back by popular demand Souled Out will be performing at this year's event. Patrons will enjoy tantalizing cuisine from new area restaurants along with area favorites, all at one location!

2010 Legislative Breakfast Series #5

The Johnson County Public Policy Council, which is comprised of nine Johnson County area chambers and the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce, sponsors the annual Legislative Breakfast Series to enhance the communication and exchange of information between the business community and the Johnson County state legislative delegation. Legislators will offer legislative updates and discuss issues. Breakfast is served promptly at 7:30 a.m. Casual attire is recommended.

Featured Senators and Representatives: Senator Terrie Huntington, John Vratil; Representatives Milack Talia, Owen Donohoe, Mike Kiegerl.

Individual admissions are $20 for Chamber members and $25 for non-members.

At this event there will be many vendors, including Shred Time, who will completely destroy any sensitive documents individuals may have; So bring anything you want safely destroyed.

The Society of Former FBI Agents will be present, who will process children in the Child Protection Program for their safety and security.

The Leawood Police will be present to teach self defense, along with the Leawood Fire Department, who will talk about fire safety measures.

There will be many more vendors, who will provide information on safety, health and security. Bring your family and friends to this great event. There will be lots of fun, food, and great things to learn about your safety and health.

The Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, Brighton Gardens, and the Prairie Village merchants are partnering to host "Springtime in the Village", Saturday, April 17th.

The day will begin with the "Steps to the Cure" 5K Run/Walk and a one mile fun walk. Registration begins at 7 am, and race time is at 8 am.

Following the run, visitors can go back in time at the annual "Cruisin' Down Memory Lane" Classic Car and Motorcycle show. Food, entertainment, and a kids zone round out the day.

Heartland Habitat for Humanity Women Build Kickoff

Mark your Calendar: Help kick-off Heartland Habitat's WomenBuild 2010 with an evening of food, fashion, and chic sophistication.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center Honored with Award for Green Initiatives

Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has been recognized with the highest level Emerald Award for the Johnson County Green Business Initiative sponsored by the Johnson County Environmental Department.

SMMC was one of 14 Johnson County businesses selected for an award based on its ongoing and new green initiatives and efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle with demonstrated success. All applicants completed a survey with categories including waste reduction, reuse and recycling, outreach, education and policies, as well as a one-page written summary of their efforts. The businesses were then selected for three levels of awards including emerald, gold and silver.

SMMC will be formally recognized by the Solid Waste Management Committee at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Thursday, May 6, at 9:30 am.
