Kansas City, MO (APRIL 16, 2007) – Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy (NYSE: GXP), announced today it is seeking bids to develop up to 400 MW of emission-free, renewable wind generation in Missouri and/or Kansas. KCP&L will assess proposals to add a minimum of 100 MW in 2008 and up to an additional 300 MW from 2009 through 2012. The company’s first wind project, The Spearville Wind Energy Facility in Spearville, Kansas, became operational in 2006.
“Our first venture into wind energy in Spearville is a major success and we will build on that model, collaborating with all stakeholders, as we increase our renewable portfolio,” said Bill Downey, President and CEO of KCP&L. “In addition to Spearville, we will be reviewing other sites in both Missouri and Kansas.”
The company’s Spearville Wind Energy Facility began supplying renewable, clean energy to KCP&L customers in October, 2006 and provides enough power to meet the annual needs of 33,000 households. Projects like Spearville have also provided a valuable economic boost to the rural areas where they are located.

During the 2007 Kansas Legislative session, HB 2179 set to carve out rules for non-profits or other organizations such as chambers of commerce that issue gift certificates or gift cards. There was no action during the 2007 session on this bill, so the current legislation is still in effect.
To summarize current Kansas law:
-No one can sell a gift certificate with an expiration date that is less than 5 years from the date of purchase
-A gift card sold without an expiration date is valid until redeemed
-No fees can be charged against the balance of the gift certificate within the first 12 months since the purchase date

Additionally, most business owners are too busy running the business and don’t have time to focus on promoting the business. That’s where we come in.
