In 1992, The Health Partnership Clinic opened to provide care for the low income families and the uninsured living in Johnson County. The clinic now provides free medical and dental care to these residents at two sites: Overland Park and Olathe. Through partnerships with local organizations, volunteer doctors, nurses, and clerical workers have helped the Clinic become an important resource in our community. The clinic has over 100 volunteers and in 2009, they provided 5,451 hours of service for a value of $246,639.
Our guest speaker at this month's membership meeting is Amanda Lowe, President & CEO of the Health Partnership Clinic. She will share with the membership more information on this valuable resource in the community.
In addition to an insightful program, our newest Chamber members will be presented in our quarterly "Chamber Debut". Each attendee will receive a description from each business that has joined the Leawood Chamber in the past 90 days.

Electronics Recycling
Americans dispose of a lot of used electronic devices. In fact, 2006 alone saw almost three million tons, or 6 billion pounds, discarded. Electronic items such as computers, TVs, and cell phones frequently contain small, but significant amounts of hazardous or toxic substances such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and beryllium which can leach out into the environment when disposed of improperly. Unwanted electronics also contain materials of high value such as gold, copper, and silver which is wasted when the user of the device bypasses recycling and sends the item straight to the trash.
In the past four years the community recycling events have netted more than 407,000 pounds of unwanted electronics, including more than 2,800 monitors and 2,250 printers. On April 24, the cities of Overland Park, Mission Hills, Leawood, Prairie Village, and Roeland Park are teaming up to sponsor another event where you can easily recycle electronics, working or non-working that you no longer need. The event will be held Saturday, April 24, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. Located at 6300 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park. Enter ... Marcus Buckingham, who spent 17 years with the Gallup Organization researching the world’s best leaders, managers and workplaces, will present Strengths-Driven Performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community College as part of the Cohen Community Series.
Described as a “strengths-management guru” by sources such as Fortune Magazine and Oprah Winfrey, Buckingham is the world’s foremost authority on helping people maximize their strengths rather than simply improving their weaknesses to increase work efficiency and personal growth. His almost two decades as a senior researcher at Gallup laid the foundation for a string of New York Times best-selling books.
In this presentation, Buckingham, who has a master’s degree in social and political science from Cambridge University, will present key data from a number of different industries demonstrating the correlation between performance and engagement. His research indicates employees are more productive and teams more effective when employees are allowed to apply their greatest strengths. Buckingham will offer a number of stra ...
