Weekly Cooking Classes

The children are seated around work tables as the recipes are read for the class. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss with them the social context of the food being prepared, including engaging them about their own experiences. We encourage their natural curiosity by asking them questions throughout the process. To facilitate their ability to be hands-on, we use kid-sized cooking utensils that work well for small hands.

KC Housing Market Remains Relatively Stable

While the national news has been filled with stories about sharply declining home values and subprime loans, the Kansas City market remains relatively strong and safe.  During the housing and mortgage boom, home loans to risky borrowers became more and more common.

In our area, things are less dramatic.  The fallout from the subprime loan crisis is most evident in places that experienced an unusually high appreciation in home values.  The major rollbacks in housing prices have also occurred mostly in markets that have had dramatically escalating values.

Since home prices in the Kansa City area progress at a more modest pace, our market has typically not seen extreme downturns.  While there has been some correction, market data suggest local home values are holding up well.  The right financing can add to the strength of an investment, and it all starts with a strong lender.  Combined with the healthy inventory of homes in the area, and falling mortgage rates, it’s a buyer’s market.
