On Sunday, June 4, 2006, SAFEHOME will hold its 14th Annual June Jubilee, "Blueprint for Success," to benefit the women and children who are clients of Johnson County’s only provider of services for victims of domestic violence.
The "Blueprint for Success" Jubilee includes dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment, and a short program. This event will mark the kick-off of SAFEHOME’s capital campaign.
SAFEHOME is conducting the first capital campaign in its 26-year history to raise funds to renovate a former hotel. The facility would allow SAFEHOME to increase shelter capacity from 29 to 40 beds, and eventually 60 beds.
Will and Senia Shields are Honorary Chairs of the event. Anne Peterson will be the Mistress of Ceremonies with Chuck Robinson conducting the live auction.

A project that used a game-like exercise to teach the public about complex engineering concepts earned doc COMMUNICATIONS a “Best of Show Award,” from the Kansas City chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The firm won the award, along with several others, at the chapter’s Bronze Quill Gala held Friday, May 3, 2006, at the Westin Crown Center. The annual event is held to honor the communications work of the area’s top corporations, non-profits and government agencies.
The IABC awarded Michael DeMent and Susan Tolleson the best of show award for their entry “Right Turns: Creating a State/Local Partnership for Long-Range Planning”. doc COMMUNICATIONS developed the transportation planning tool for the Kansas Department of Transportation as part of a study to determine how best to handle long-term growth along K-7, a rapidly developing highway on the west edge of Kansas City.

Saint Luke’s South will host its 6th annual Family Health Festival on Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festival is targeted to the entire family, featuring health screenings and information for adults and entertainment for children. Community organizations will provide information on various health topics, and offer health screenings including heel bone density, hearing, blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Children can enjoy a moonwalk, a giant slide, a LifeFlight air ambulance available for tours from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., face-painting, a mini-hospital, and a special Father’s Day craft. Other activities for adults will include chair massage, car seat safety checks, and golf performance enhancement. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase from Highland Plaza Hy-Vee and Robek’s Fruit Smoothies.
