A Taste of Leawood 2006

One of the area`s best events now entering its ninth year! Enjoy a casual evening of culinary splendor from the area`s finest restaurants under the stars in the Leawood City Hall Courtyard.

The jazzy blues sounds of the Dan Doran Band will fill the air as patrons enjoy wines, spirits and tantalizing selections from many area restaurant menus. We expect a crowd of 600 people to enjoy jazz and samplings of the Leawood area`s finest cuisine, beverages and spirits in the Leawood City Hall Courtyard on Saturday, June 17th from 7pm to 11pm.

Kendall Gammon is the personification of the All-American success story.

From his humble beginnings growing up amidst the wheat fields of Rose Hill, Kansas, he began his quest for success at an early age. He ultimately landed a football scholarship to NCAA Division II Pittsburg State University where he helped his team win a national championship in 1991.

Dating back to those small-town origins, Gammon has always surrounded himself with countless successful people who have helped provide him with a multitude of life lessons. Gammon's commitment to four key principles, Setting goals, Noticing strengths, Accepting accountability and Practicing persistence, have empowered him to achieve his life long dreams of playing in the NFL, culminating in both a Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl. These very same principles have also enabled him to build a great family and even a thriving business. His against-all-odds story of achievement will inspire you to build your business and personal future around these principles.

Journey Into Wellness

Journey into Wellness will nourish minds, bodies and spirits at their first annual wellness event at the Overland Park Convention Center on Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and features more than 20 nutrition and wellness presentations, breakout sessions and interactive workshops by national and local experts including Dr. James Gordon, author of Manifesto for a New Medicine, and Founder of Center for Mind Body Medicine, Cancer Guides and Food as Medicine; Dr. Mark Liponis, author of Ultra Prevention; and many more.

Your Wellness Connection, P.A., has partnered with Journey into Wellness to bring health and wellness exhibitors together to showcase at this one-day event focusing on improving well being by healthy eating, healthy living, and maintaining a positive spiritual life. The event will conclude with an organic farmer's market beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the courtyard of the Overland Park Convention Center. Attendees can take nutritional information learned during the day and recipes provided by the speakers to purchase fresh food and practice new skills at home.

This is why SuperTechs has joined forces with representatives from the Leawood Police Department and the Blue Valley School District to host a free internet safety seminar for parents and children.

Adult Tap Classes with Lonnie McFadden

Shawnee Mission Medical Center to Host Kansas City’s First Live Surgical Webcast

Shawnee Mission Medical Center will host the Kansas City metropolitan area’s first live surgical Internet broadcast on Wednesday, June 21, at 6 p.m. During the Webcast, internationally recognized surgeon Joseph B. Petelin, MD, FACS, will perform a laparoscopic colectomy, in which part of the colon is removed using a minimally invasive approach.

Traditionally the procedure has required a single 7-10 inch incision, however the laparoscopic technique allows three or four small incisions to be used – promoting reduced postoperative pain and discomfort, decreased time in the hospital, and a quicker return to work and full activity.

The live Webcast will be the hospital’s first in a series of four broadcasts throughout the next year designed to educate the public about minimally invasive surgical options for the treatment of colon cancer, hip replacement, prostate cancer and cardiology. “Patients are turning to the Internet for health information and education more than ever before,” said Petelin. “This live broadcast will allow patients to not only learn about a specific condition, but to also see firsthand what treatment for that con ... Is Red Tape Slowing Down Your Ability to Do Business?

Did you know that one of the services we offer to Leawood Chamber members is assistance in cutting through unnecessary red tape with local and county government agencies?

We can't make rules already on the books go away, but we can often help you find right people to talk to so that your project is completed as quickly as possible. We can also meet with government officials to see if existing regulations are necessary or might be in need of ammendment.
