Continuing with the entrepreneurship theme, a representative from the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Johnson County Community College (JCCC KSBDC) will be our speaker at this month's membership breakfast.
JCCC SBDC partners with the Kauffman Foundation to recognize and create opportunities in entrepreneurship education. The organization is also a member of KCSourceLink, an entrepreneurship referral network.
The mission of the JCCC KSBDC is to increase economic prosperity in Kansas by helping entrepreneurs and small business owners start and grow their businesses through professional consulting, training, and resources. They provide counseling services, small business workshops and resource information, including free, confidential, one-on-one consulting to existing and prospective small business owners in Johnson, Wyandotte, and Miami counties in Kansas.

If you are a business owner who is starting to consider succession planning and/or exit options, this presentation will provide an overview of the process.
Tim Skarda, a certified M&A intermediary, and Kelly Skarda, a Certified Business Appraiser, both of Allied Business Group, Inc., will give an educational presentation for business owners, their spouses and advisors. The event will provide a rare opportunity for participants to view the exit planning process from both a business appraiser and business broker's perspective.
Topics discussed will include the process of business valuation and how owners can better understand how to increase their companies' value. The presenters will also address preparing a company for market and how to control the sale process to achieve maximum value.
CLE/CPE/CE credit for Kansas and Missouri. Attorneys may obtain one CLE credit from the Kansas and Missouri Bar Association. To do so, please RSVP at least 30 days in advance (per Kansas Bar Association). Accountants may receive one recommended CPE credit. Final approval is subject to the Kansas and Missouri Board of Accountancy.

What do you get when you combine an international auto-repair company, hundreds of non-profit agencies, and a whole lot of soap and water? The world’s largest car wash in history!
Marillac, a non-profit children’s organization in Overland Park, was selected as the local charity to partner with CARSTAR, Metcalf and the Make-A-Wish Foundation in a national car wash fundraiser on June 20. Soaps It Up! will take place at more than 200 CARSTAR locations across the U.S. and Canada.
To set the Guinness World Record for “Most Cars Washed – Multiple Locations,” CARSTAR will need to wash more than 4,000 vehicles during an eight-hour period at all of the participating locations. Local volunteers and CARSTAR staff will be on hand to wash the vehicles, as well as a Guinness World Records® official to validate the feat is successful.
Tickets can be purchased at the CARSTAR, Metcalf location or from a member of the Marillac Development Staff. Tickets will also be sold at the car wash on June 20. For more information about Soaps It Up!, visit http://www.carstar.com.

The Leawood Arts Council will present “Grinnin’ & Groovin’” entertainment for the entire family each Thursday in June. The grand finale for this event series is a concert by local favorite, “Mr. Stinky Feet” on June 25th.
Jim Cosgrove has delighted audiences throughout North America and Europe for more than a decade, including two performances at The White House. His recordings have earned five national awards.
Cosgrove’s laid-back style and ability to connect with children, has led to parents dubbing him “Jimmy Buffett for kids”. His high-energy concerts are loaded with laughter, singing and dancing, and audience participation.
This outdoor show will be held at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end by 10:30 a.m. In the event of rain the event will be held in the Lodge at Ironwoods Park. Bring your entire family for fun-filled entertainment that will thrill children of all ages.

On May 27th Tannahs celebrated their Grand Opening. The festivities began with a ribbon cutting ceremony with members of both the Olathe Chamber of Commerce and the Leawood Chamber of Commerce in attendance. A live band entertained the group into the evening.
Tannahs is open Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner, on Saturdays from 4 pm to 11 pm and on Sundays from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm (Breakfast served from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm). Make sure you stop by!

On June 13th, the Leawood Chamber hosted a wonderful night under the stars! Our annual event, A Taste of Leawood, was a fabulous celebration featuring Leawood's finest restaurants.
Participants were surveyed the night of the event, and awards for Favorite Fare, Best Presentation, and Top Treat were presented.
Bonefish Grill received the Favorite Fare award, and Sullivan's Steakhouse received the Best Presentation award. Foo's Fabulous Frozen Custard received the Top Treat award, a new award category added this year.
All restaurants participating were highly praised for their delectable offerings!! Again, thanks to all 22 establishments that made the 2009 A Taste of Leawood such a delicious event!!
The Park Place Gallery of Fine Art is proud to present the art of local artist, William Rose. Opening Reception and meet the artist is Friday, July 17th, 5:00PM to 9:00PM as part of the Johnson County Art Crawl.
Bill has most recently won a prestigious cover competition with his work appearing on the cover of American Artist Magazine. The national exposure led to a request to produce all artwork for a new Eastwood movie filmed in Carmel about an art prodigy who gets pulled into the world of international art forgery.
Opening reception Friday, July 17th, 5pm to 9pm. Artist Demonstration Saturday, July 18th, 11am to 3pm. Chef Silverio Pagano will be present and will be providing lite fare tastings! “A little bit of heaven, on every plate”. Show will run through August 31st. There is no cost for this event.
