Leawood Chamber members, their guests, and 'future' Chamber members are invited to join us for some great Leawood Chamber networking hosted by Marillac. Enjoy breakfast items such as coffee cake, spiced cider, coffee, etc. and of course there will be some great door prizes.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about Marillac and how you can be a part of their annual fundraiser, Marillac?s Enchanted Forest at Union Station. Attendees will see examples of holiday-themed trees that are donated and auctioned off each year. It is never too early to start thinking about the Holidays!

Join us every OTHER Friday for Paint Me A Story. Painters, ages 3-5, will create a special pottery project that goes along with a favorite children's book. A wonderdul story time for parents (or other special adult friends) and children to listen to a story and create together.

Art Reception for Susan Sinclair at Town & Country

The Community Room at Town & Country Bank displays local artists' work.  This month, attend an art reception hosted by Susan Sinclair. 

Susan's works include dramatic, creative acrylic paintings of sports with heavy emphasis on KU Basketball and its historic contributions to the game, aviation paintings, yachts, western cowboys.

Susan did participate in this year's Leawood Town Center Art Festival.  Public is invited to attend.

Don't Get Lost in Leawood!

The 2007-2008 'Where's That?' A Leawood Area Community Map, is now available!

This full color, high quality, user-friendly map is intended for members of the community, visitors and newcomers in the Leawood area. Information is conveniently organized with addresses and phone numbers corresponding to plots on the map for Leawood area restaurants, shopping centers, hospitals, golf courses,  police and fire stations, the trail system and art objects.

The Leawood Area Map is currently available at the Leawood Chamber office, Leawood City Hall, and the Town Center Plaza office.  If you would like more information on the map, please contact the Chamber office at 913-498-1514.

Great Plains wins Edison Award

The Edison Electric Institute has named Great Plains Energy Inc. as one of two winners of the Edison Award for 2007.

The institute gives the award annually to shareholder-owned utilities in the United States and international members "for outstanding contributions to and advancement of the electric power industry," the institute said in a release Tuesday. A committee of industry trade publication editors and a panel of current and retired CEOs select the finalists and winners, institute spokesman Ed Legge said.

The institute presented the award, the 80th it has given, Tuesday at its annual meeting in Denver. The other winner was the Latin American division of AES Corp., based in Arlington, Va.

The institute cited Kansas City-based Great Plains (NYSE: GXP) for its Kansas City Power & Light Co. subsidiary's comprehensive energy plan to meet the region's demand for clean, affordable energy. KCP&L did that, the institute said, by developing new, clean energy sources, making environmental and infrastructure improvements and creating energy-efficiency and demand-response programs, while recognizing "the emerging concerns around carbon and other e ...
