Continuing with the entrepreneurship theme, Bob Kolich from the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Johnson County Community College (JCCC KSBDC) will be our speaker at this month's membership breakfast. He will talk about the services KSBDC has to offer and discuss the ARC loan program that the SBA recently announced.

JCCC SBDC partners with the Kauffman Foundation to recognize and create opportunities in entrepreneurship education. The organization is also a member of KCSourceLink, an entrepreneurship referral network.

The mission of the JCCC KSBDC is to increase economic prosperity in Kansas by helping entrepreneurs and small business owners start and grow their businesses through professional consulting, training, and resources. They provide counseling services, small business workshops and resource information, including free, confidential, one-on-one consulting to existing and prospective small business owners in Johnson, Wyandotte, and Miami counties in Kansas.

Stop! Police Dog- Will Attack!

A free demonstration of K-9 attack and Seek-and-Find techniques is scheduled to be held outside of the Petland Pet Store located at 7911 W. 151st Street in Overland Park, Kansas (In the Target Shopping Center).This event is a fundraising effort sponsored by Petland owners Janice, Thomas and Aaron Roffman. During the outdoor demonstration, which begins at noon, guests may donate money that will be used to send Officer Callahan (Kansas City Police Department) and his canine partner, Max to training at the National Police Canine Association (NPCA) in Newcastle, Delaware.

On June 27th, Officer Callahan and Max will be demonstrating training procedures and display attack  simulations on full body attack suits. Max will also perform seek-and-find substance search and discovery operations for entertainment purposes. The free event is family friendly and no reservation or donation is required.

Petland of Overland Park currently sponsors three Kansas City Officers and their canine partners;   supplying all products necessary for proper nutrition to the animals. Kids Triathlon

The fourth annual Jewish Community Center Kids Triathlon provides Kansas City youth with a fitness goal while making athletics fun and keeping health top of mind for local parents.

This year’s event is Sunday, June 28, at 7:00 a.m. at the Center, 5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park, Kan. A swimming, biking and running competition, the event is open to youth between the ages of 6 and 17. Both veteran and first-time participants are encouraged to take part.

Kids 6 to 10 swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles and run 1 mile. Kids 11 to 14 swim 200 yards, bike 5 miles and run 1.5 miles. An elite category for teens ages 15 to 17 allows them to swim 300 meters, bike 6.5 miles and run 2.2 miles.

Every participant receives a T-shirt and a medal for participating. Trophies will be awarded to age-group winners. Participants can compete individually or as part of a two- or three-person team.

Air National Guard Band Concert

This concert band will perform a variety of music ranging from patriotic pieces, Broadway show tunes, marches and standard band literature. Big band music and contemporary jazz standards will be performed by the Jazz Band.

Their mission is to develop and maintain a positive relationship with the local community, to augment local recruiting efforts, and to provide appropriate music for military functions with its assigned area. The group comprised of traditional guardsman, drills once a month and has two weeks of annual active duty training a year.

The Air National Guard Band of the Central States has proudly represented the Missouri Air National Guard for more than 50 years. The Band, established in 1947 is attached to the 131st Fighter Wing located at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, Missouri. Under the command of Captain John Arata, the 35-member unit consists of a concert band, jazz ensemble, jazz/rock combo, brass quintet and a marching band.

The Band performs throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. They have performed in Utah at the Mormon Tabernacle and toured Ecuador, South America. Highlights for the group include a July 4t ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)

The Leawood Parks and Recreation Department is proud of the excitement and tradition that the annual 4th of July Celebration brings to the community. Leawood City Park will be the site for a variety of new and traditional family festivities on July 4th. Enjoy great entertainment, participate in games, and taste a variety of food from vendors.

The Aquatic Center will be open from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Kids activities and food vendors will take place from 5:00 - 9:30 p.m. Stage show events will be 5:45-7:00 pm and the musical entertainment will be provided by the Mikey Needleman Band from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.

General Admission is free. All Access Ride/Activity Bands (for children 14 and under) will be available. No Parking will be available in City Park. Free parking will be provided along the east side Tomahawk Creek Parkway and shuttle busses will be available for transportation to City Park at no cost.
