A growing concern for KC companies is the challenges they face in recruiting new employees from outside of the KC market. Recruiting the 25- to 34-year-old, single, college-educated professional, as well as college graduates from the East and West coasts, is of special concern.
Our guest speaker will be Roxanne Elliott, Talent Recruitment and Marketing Manager, with the Kansas City Area Development Council. Learn how KCADC is gearing up to attract the "young and restless" to the KC region. You'll learn more about who this group is, why they are so important and how they think differently about cities.
KCADC will also share the latest tools available to attract and retain talent to KC through their talent recruitment initiative, KC2.0. You will face many ethical situations in your career. How you handle them will determine how far you advance in your career. Dr. Thomas Mulinazzi, Chair/Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, School of Engineering, is currently a member of the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions and will provide insight to help you better understand ways to handle these situations. The Bank of Blue Valley is providing coffee & pastries at each event beginning at 7:45 a.m.

The City of Leawood and 105.1 Jack FM are proud to present the annual 4th of July Celebration, sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods and Coca-Cola. Leawood City Park (10601 Lee Blvd) will be the site for food, fun and fireworks on Friday, July 4 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. Join the entire community in remembering what a great nation we live in and help celebrate our Independence Day! In honor of the city’s 60th anniversary, the fireworks display will be bigger and better than ever!
No Parking in City Park. Free parking in designated lots will be available along Tomahawk Creek Parkway. Shuttle Buses will be available for tansportation to City Park at no cost!

Red, White, AND GREEN? A Taste of Leawood goes “GREEN”
Approximately 550 people gathered on June 21, 2008, to take part in the 11th annual celebration, A Taste of Leawood. Those who attended planned on an evening sampling wines and food from 18 of Leawood area’s finest restaurants.
No doubt the only colors on their minds were red and white, the colors of wine. Most likely recycling and thinking “green” wasn’t a consideration. But as soon as guests entered the event held at Leawood City Hall’s Courtyard, they began to see how the Chamber incorporated environmentally conscience planning into the party’s framework.
First, every guest received a souvenir wine glass that was reused throughout the evening. This glass proved to not only be a lovely memento, but an excellent way to cut down on waste.
The Chamber also sought out the help of Keep Kansas City Beautiful, an affiliate of Bridging the Gap. This organization offers solutions to those wishing to host green events. Supplies were ordered from Keep Kansas City Beautiful, allowing the Chamber to recycle all the aluminum cans and plastic bottles from this year’s celebration.
And given this year’s eco-friendly theme, even the souvenir gift bags went green. The City of Leawood donated reusable polypropylene shopping bags which were filled with gifts and coupons courtesy of Leawood Chamber member organizations.
