The speaker for the July General Membership Luncheon will be Mr. Adam Crowe with Johnson County Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Adam is responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of all community preparedness activities including trainings, exercises, education, public presentations, and public information. These community preparedness functions are designed to prepare local citizens to get ready for emergencies and disasters. Adam also promotes the many programs already performed by Johnson County Departments that help improve the overall preparedness of the county. By preparing local citizens for all community hazards and promoting these county functions, Johnson County will become more resilient to disasters and truly a Community Prepared.

This position specifically oversees the Johnson County -- A Community Prepared Social Media program, the Emergency Prepared Neighborhood Program, and the Citizen Corps program as well as Emergency Management Interns.

Chamber Members: As an added benefit, members will receive via email a spreadsheet with contact information of all the other member attendees at the event. This is another way we're working to make sure the Leawood Chamber is a great networking resource for Chamber members.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Shawnee Mission Ford to Host Women's Car Care Education Event

Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s Glow program and Shawnee Mission Ford will host an event for women to learn car care basics on Wednesday, July 20, 6-8 p.m., at Shawnee Mission Ford, 11501 Shawnee Mission Parkway.

Shawnee Mission Ford’s automotive experts will instruct women on basic maintenance such as changing oil, changing a tire and other car services. Free refreshments will be provided.

Leawood Chamber Members Named in Top Companies of 2011

The Leawood Chamber would like to congratulate the following Leawood Chamber members that are nominees and award winners in the "Top 10 Companies of 2011."

Comfort Keepers Partners with Harvesters

Comfort Keepers is celebrating their 10 year anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the company is partnering with Harvesters in hopes of providing 10,000 meals to the elderly they serve. 

One dollar purchases 5 meals through Harvesters. 

Comfort Keepers is collecting food items, as well as cash donations. To find out what types of foods are needed and for more information please visit the link below.

Items can be dropped out in the collection bin at the Leawood Chamber's office located in the Country Club Bank building at 13451 Briar, Ste. 201 in Leawood.

Friends of JCDS "Restyle Runway"

This year’s RESTYLE RUNWAY event to benefit the Friends of JCDS (Johnson County Developmental Supports) was chosen to illustrate the wonderful message you and other supporters help us continue to share with the community on behalf of neighbors, friends and family with intellectual and developmental disabilities .

RESTYLE RUNWAY promises to be a fun and unforgettable experience. Friends of JCDS, in conjunction with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City, has invited students enrolled in any college art, design or fashion merchandising classes to show off their talents and compete for cash scholarship prizes by creating clothing collections restyled entirely from donated items obtained at local Savers stores. The garments will be presented by models, including people served by JCDS, with winners announced at the September 23 runway show.

Lifestyle Publications Launches Northland Lifestyle Magazine

What started with Leawood Lifestyle magazine in September, 2009 has grown and grown. After launching Johnson County Lifestyle in 2010 and Lee's Summit Lifestyle earlier in 2011, the team at Lifestyle Publications have done it again. With a goal of bringing communities together, the monthly publications have been very well-received in their respective communities.
