In May 2009, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the REACH Healthcare Foundation surveyed area businesses about the impact of health care costs on their business. The survey results provide an insight into the challenges businesses are experiencing to provide health benefits to their workers. Those surveyed were also asked what they wanted elected officials to know about the impact of health care on their business, the implications of a non-employer based system and what resources they felt the Foundations and Chambers could provide on health care costs.
Steve Roling, President/CEO of the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, and Brenda Sharpe, President/CEO of the REACH Healthcare Foundation will join us for breakfast to present the results of the survey.

Ever find yourself talking about news, weather and sports too much on a sales call? Ever hope by dropping your price (one more time) you'll get the business? Or maybe you just need to tell them a few more "bells and whistles" about your product/service and they'll surely buy then?
Find out what really goes on in the buyer's decision process in this presentation by Dan Stalp. It's more than just the best personality! Differentiating yourself is determined by your questioning strategy and finding the prospect's "pain", not being one!
At the conclusion, participants will learn how to:
1. Perform the Rule of 3 in questioning.
2. Have your "antennae up" for wishy washy words
3. Determine if the problem is too new or too old to fix
4. Understand if they are personally impacted by what's going on

The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is proposed national legislation that would overturn nearly 60 years of traditional labor law by amending the National Labor Relations Act, in several unprecedented and extremely significant ways. In a nutshell, companies that are not currently unionized will have a substantially increased possibility of becoming organized.
In this seminar, we will discuss how the EFCA increases the possibility of union organization; how the EFCA, in its present form, will change the unionization process if your employees choose to do so and preventative measures you can take to avoid unionization. Guest Speaker: Lara M. Owens, attorney Seigfreid, Bingham, Levy, Selzer & Gee

Recently Laura Wynn, owner of JumpStart Marketing, happily reported she was beginning some marketing projects for Larry Kime, partner at Bonefish Grill and fellow Leawood Chamber member. It's a success story that was four years in the making!
Laura told us that she first met Larry at a Morning Mingling back in 2005. At that first meeting Larry gave Laura the corporate contact for OSI Restaurant Partners, LLC. Naturally, Laura was thrilled and grateful for the contact information. She immediately phoned Bonefish Grill corporate only to learn that they were not in need of her services. She put the card on her bulletin board with a note to follow up in one year. What happens next illustrates why building long term contacts is the key to success. Laura continues,
"Okay, so Bonefish Grill was not interested in my services. Larry Kime, however, was. Unbeknownst to me, he had also put my card on his bulletin board. In 2009 I approached Larry at a Leawood Chamber Member benefit and was surprised that he remembered me. He shared that he had referred my services and had often talked with corporate about utilizing my skills to assist in marketing on a local level for Bonefish Grill in Leawood.
During a casual conversation in May of this year, Larry invited me to a benefit luncheon where I met many business owners who were in need of my services. I have m ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)
