Last year over 1,000 people from 20 area Chambers participated in the Office Depot Chamber Day at the Kansas Speedway!

On Friday, September 28th, the Kansas Speedway will once again host a metro-wide event before the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Qualifying & Practice Day activities.

The Chamber Day Package includes:

One general admission ticket for the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Qualifying & Practice Day

8:45 am USAC Silver Crown Series Practice
10:00 am Office Depot Chamber Day and Networking Begins in the VIP Pavilion (Outside Gate C)

11:35 am NASCAR Practice Sessions
3:10 pm NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series O'Reilly Auto Parts Qualifying

Tickets are $35 per person and must be paid in ADVANCE by September 14th. Parking is always free at Kansas Speedway! Contact the Chamber office at 913-498-1514 to confirm ticket availability. Ticket packages will be mailed the week of September 17th.

This After Hours event is a networking bonus! Commerce Bank and AT&T are co-sponsoring this event for members of the Northeast Johnson County Chamber and members of the Leawood Chamber.

KU Fun Fest Picnic and bluegrass concert

Featured vocalist Bukeka Shoals has a wide vocal range and uplifting presence to compliment this funk fusion of styles.

Business Effectiveness Workshop - Leadership and Marketing

Aspire Business Development presents the Business Effectiveness Series of Workshops designed to help you be more successful. 

This series of workshops will take place in a small group setting (no more than 8 business owners/ professionals) and is led by a licensed Professional Business Coach. It's an interactive approach, so you'll learn a lot from the coach and the other participating business owners on what works and why.

And you'll have fun doing it...!

Who: Designed for Business Owners and Professionals that want to learn new strategies and ideas that will immediately help their business.

What: The first workshop will focus on the critical components of Leadership and Marketing for you and your business. We'll focus on practical, proven strategies that can have a dramatic positive effect on your business that you can start implementing right away.

Leawood School Nights For Scouting

New Cub Scout Dens will be forming in most Leawood Elementary Schools during August and September.

First through fourth graders and their parents are invited to attend information and organizational meetings at the following schools: Cornith, Nativity, and Cure of Ars on August-28th at 7PM Prairie Star, Hebrew Academy, and Leawood on August-30th at 7PM. Mission Trail on September-6th at 7PM.

Parents may also contact District Executive, Matt Specht, at the local council office of the Boy Scouts of America for registration information at 816-569-4966.

About one third of Leawood elementary students participate in Cub Scouting locally. The Heart of America Council was the fastest growing local Scout program in the country last year.

Eye Chart Worth Seeing at Hunter Family Vision

On Monday, August 20th, the Kansas City Star ran an article on the front page of the FYI section about a unique marriage proposal, which took place in the office of a Leawood Chamber member.

Joseph Wachtel wanted to give his girlfriend, Rebecca Savoy, an unexpected proposal.  Two months ago he came up with the idea of the vision-test proposal.  He became discouraged after visiting with several eye care practitioners who had no method of altering the letters on their exam charts.  Then as luck would have it, someone referred him to Dr. Brandon Hunter who opened his practice, Hunter Family Vision, in Leawood earlier this year.
 Dr. Hunter loved the idea and was able to customize his eye chart using PowerPoint software.  The joint eye appointment was set for Saturday, August 4th.  The regular exam took place and then Dr. Hunter asked to re-check Rebecca's prescription, this time he used the customized eye chart.  After reading the marriage proposal letter by letter, and getting over the shock, Rebecca said yes.
