Last year over 1,000 people from 20 area Chambers participated in the Office Depot Chamber Day at the Kansas Speedway!

On Friday, September 28th, the Kansas Speedway will once again host a metro-wide event before the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Qualifying & Practice Day activities.

The Chamber Day Package includes:

Jazz up Your Sunday for Free!

Jazz up your Sunday evening for free at Ironwoods Park! The Leawood Arts Council and Town & Country Bank have collaborated again this year to host a Jazz Concert Series on Sunday evenings. Concerts will be held at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park at 14701 Mission Road.

The first concert will be a "wild" one! It will begin at 6:00 pm on August 19th featuring one of the top jazz vocal groups in the area, The Wild Women of Kansas City. This upbeat, spontaneous concert is sure to thrill listeners with sounds that take them back to the roots of jazz and blues. Whether you are a seasoned jazz fan or a first timer the Wild Women of Kansas City’s performance will make you feel good.

The second concert in this Jazz series begins at 6:00 pm on August 26th and will feature OJT with vocalist Bukeka Shoals. OJT, which stands for Organ Jazz Trio, performs a fusion of jazz, pop, and blues. Bukeka Shoals has a wide vocal range and uplifting presence to compliment this funk fusion of styles.

The third concert will be on September 2nd at 6:00 pm. The performers will be announced at a later date.

Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk and Health & Wellness Festival

Is there a better way to spend a beautiful fall morning than by walking a few miles on the trails at the Corporate Woods Office Complex in Overland Park, Kansas, with your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers? Don’t forget to bring your pooch (dogs on a leash are very welcome to attend). Most importantly, you’ll be helping to raise money for a cure for diabetes! Grab your walking shoes and come out for a fun-filled morning of exercise, music, food and festivities.

Before strolling along the three mile trail, visit the Health and Wellness Festival and get the latest and greatest information on living a healthy lifestyle and ask the expert your diabetes questions in the “Ask the Experts” tent. Enjoy healthy snacks before and during the walk and your pooch can enjoy a treat at the “doggie rest stops” during the Walk (and the “pooper picker upper” bags will even be furnished for you). Cross the finish line and enjoy a healthy and delicious breakfast, music, and games!

Shawnee Mission Medical Center Featured in U.S. News and World Report

MERRIAM, Kan. – The American Heart Association has featured Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) in an advertisement appearing in the current issue of U.S. News and World Report highlighting hospitals throughout the nation that have received the Get with the Guidelines – Sustained Performance Award. Not only is SMMC the only hospital in Kansas or Missouri to ever receive this recognition, the hospital achieved the accomplishment in both 2006 and 2007.

The Sustained Performance Award is given to hospitals that have completed two or more years of participation in the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines program at 85 percent or higher adherence to all required performance measures. Under Get with the Guidelines, patients are started on aggressive risk reduction therapies such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, aspirin, ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers in the hospital and receive smoking cessation counseling before they are discharged.
