This month, we will have Angela Kreps, President of Kansas Bio, to speak to our group about biosciences. KansasBio is a unified voice representing the biosciences in Kansas. Across the human, plant, animal and industrial biosciences, KansasBio is focused on enhancing the business and research climate and working with leaders across the state to attract and retain bioscience talent, companies and funding.

From Kansas City to Hays, Manhattan to Wichita, and Atchison to Garden City, KansasBio represents the bioscience continuum from the university laboratories to the established pharmaceutical, animal health and crop science companies, and all the entrepreneurial ventures, start-ups and service providers in the heart of the continuum.

"Oops! I did it again! Cure your memory woes in 90 minutes." Dennis DuPont of Bank Midwest will lead a class for those who want to improve their ability to remember little things within conversations. Learn how to remember names, points within the conversation, and other small facts that seem to slip away at the wrong time.

Presentation is from 8 - 9:30 a.m. with registration, coffee and pastries and general networking beginning at 7:45 a.m. Limited to the first 16 registrants.

Jazz Concert Series

The first concert will feature one the the area's premeire jazz vocal groups, The Wild Women of Kansas City. This upbeat spontaneous concert is sure to thrill listeners with sounds that take them back to the roots of jazz & blues.

Georgia Dalton Memorial Classic

Sep. 7, 2006, 12:00pm at Prairie Highlands Golf Course, 14695 S. Inverness Street, Olathe, 66061
Cost: Registration, which includes lunch, golfing and dinner, is $850 for a four-person team. For those who can’t make it out to golf, tickets are available for $30 to attend the dinner and auction.

Golf event is a scramble format with teams of four. The day includes lunch, dinner, silent and live auctions, and live music.

Scott and Melanie Dalton organize the annual event in memory of their daughter, Georgia, who was a Carousel patient during her life of 6 and a half months.

 Registration and lunch begin at noon, tee off is at 1 p.m., and dinner begins around 5:30 or 6 p.m., when golfers finish.

In addition, hole sponsors, raffle, and live and silent auction items are still needed. To participate or for more information, please call 816-363-2600.

The second concert in the Sundays in September Series will feature David Basse and the Mo City Jumpers. David has been at the forefront of KC Jazz for over 20 years. His brand of KC Jazz will have the audience tapping their feet and wanting to dance.

Marillac Auxiliary Fashion Show and Luncheon

Proceeds benefit Marillac’s “Little Store”, a place where children can redeem “good behavior” points for fun prizes.

United Studios of Self Defense Celebrates Grand Opening with a Ribbon Cutting!

United Studios of Self Defense (USSD) kicked off their Grand Opening Celebration on August 25th with a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The Leawood Chamber of Commerce assisted with the ceremony and Mayor Peggy Dunn was on hand to cut the ribbon and welcome them to Leawood.

Volunteers Needed for Annual Meeting Committee

Do you enjoy event planning or have any ideas on how to make our Annual Meeting better than last year?  If so, we need your help! 

The Chamber is looking for a few good volunteers to serve on a Committee for this year's Annual Meeting on December 12th.  The Committee will assist with selecting gifts for attendees, coming up with the event's decor and music, as well as help with the slide show.

New women's fitness class at K.A.T. Academy

Starting September 11th, a women's exercise class will be held 3 mornings a week -  M,T,& Th,from 10-11am at K.A.T.Academy-Leawood.

Leawood Fire Department Calls for Donations

The Leawood Fire Department provides fire safety education materials to all Leawood grade school kids.  To fund this, they request that area businesses donate through a program called Firepup.

Firepup provides coloring and comic books to the fire department to distribute during Fire Prevention Week.
