Our fifth annual event will once again be hosted in the beautiful, one-of-a-kind home of Lyn Shaw and Dennis Langley - "The Spirit of Avalon" on Thursday, September 23, 2010.

Our 2009 guests were amazed by this spectacular home and surrounding grounds, and many of them promised to come back this year with their friends! You are encouraged to bring a girlfriend, co-worker, daughter, sister or mother to the Power With A Purpose Giving Circle.

Most importantly, your presence expresses your support of TLC for Children and Families. This non-profit organization, located in Olathe, KS, provides quality emergency shelter, residential treatment and crisis intervention services for children and families in the surrounding six-county area. Trader Joe’s Announces Two New Locations!

(September 16, 2010) Monrovia, CA - Trader Joe's, a unique, neighborhood grocery store with foods and beverages from the exotic to the basic, has signed a lease to open the first Kansas location in Leawood and a  Kansas City, Missouri store scheduled for 2011. The Leawood, Kansas store is located at 4201 W 119th Street (on the corner of 119th and Roe) and the Kansas City, Missouri store is located at 8600 Ward Parkway, Suite 1020 (Ward Parkway Shopping Center).   Both locations are scheduled to open in 2011.  The Leawood location is approximately 12,000 square feet and the Kansas City, Missouri store is approximately 14,000 square feet in size. The Leawood store will mark the first Trader Joe’s to open in Kansas.

Trader Joe’s was originally named in recognition of its distinct grocery buying process, because they search the world for great values and distinctive products. Crew members (store employees) consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas.” Crewmembers sport brightly colored Hawaiian-themed shirts, adding to the light-hearted air of the store.

Many area residents after the store opens can expect to receive a copy of the Trader Joe’s “Fearless Flyer” in their mailboxes. The Fearless Flyer is a somewhat irreverent description of a timely selection of Trader Joe’s products. It’s been called a cross between Consumer Reports and Mad Magazine. Each edition highlights a selec ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)

Health Partnership Clinic's 2010 Special Event A Success

Overland Park, August 28: More than 240 guests attended Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County’s 4th Annual event on August 28. The majority of guests donned 70s attire to celebrate the accomplishments of the Clinic and dance to the music of Platinum Express. Bryan Busby of KMBC 9 served as Master of Ceremonies.

The Health Partnership Clinic has seen an increase in demand for services with the economic downturn. The approximately $100,000 raised from the annual event will go toward supporting the ongoing health care needs of low-income, uninsured, Johnson County residents, which the Clinic serves and advance in the expansion of the Olathe medical and dental clinic. Linda Carlsen presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Dr. Kit Powers, Olathe Medical Center. Dr. Powers was recognized for his philanthropic service and dedication to the Health Partnership Clinic’s mission.

The evening’s success was due in a large part to its generous corporate sponsors: The Medical Staffs of Saint Luke’s South Hospital, Menorah Medical Center, Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Olathe Medical Center along with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, Barton P. & Mary D. Cohen Charitable Trust, Carondelet Health System, Coventry Healthcare of Kansas, Goetze Dental, Heartland Surgical Specialty Hospital, Lockton Companies, Nueterra Healthcare, Preferred Physicians Medical, Spencer Fane Britt & Browne LLP and Swiss Re.
