In May 2009, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the REACH Healthcare Foundation commissioned a survey of area businesses to determine the impact of health care costs on their business. The survey results provide insight into the challenges businesses are experiencing to provide health benefits for their employees. Those surveyed were also asked what they wanted elected officials to know about the impact of health care on their business, the implications of a non-employer based system and what resources they felt the Foundations and Chambers could provide on health care costs.
Steve Roling, President/CEO of the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, and Brenda Sharpe, President/CEO of the REACH Healthcare Foundation will join us for breakfast to present the results of the survey.
Board Elections for 2010 will also take place at this meeting, so Chamber members, make sure a representative from your company attends and votes.(election notices were sent to the voting representative for all member businesses on 08/17/09)

Throughout its illustrious history, St. Joseph Medical Center has touted many firsts. St. Joseph was the first private hospital and first x-ray services west of the Mississippi, first hospital with windows in every patient room, first air medical ambulance service in the city and first acute care hospital in Kansas City with Magnet status for nursing excellence. Nurses at St. Joseph were the first to have computerized patient records, first to administer IVs rather than physicians and first to use blood pressure cuffs. St. Joseph was also the first to offer a bachelor of nursing program in Kansas City. The hospital was also the first to have a medical museum in the city. Now St. Joseph Medical Center will be first to have a permanent exhibit on the History of Nursing in Kansas City.
The collections and archives of the Piper Memorial Medical Museum contain the history of St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Mary’s Hospital, and St. Mary’s Medical Center Blue Springs. The museum’s mission is to preserve, interpret, and promote that history.
In St. Joseph’s Heritage Hall, rotating exhibits focus on different aspects of St. Joseph’s long history, ranging from medical innovations to its doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers. The Turn-of-the-Century Doctor’s Office permanent exhibit is filled with furnishings and equipment from two generations of St. Joseph resident physicians. The History of Nursing ...
