10/13/2009 – Become a better photographer in just one day.
The world of photography has changed. More than ever people with little or no background in photography are being asked to be the designated photographer at their office or business. Modern digital cameras allow most people to get acceptable results with very little training.
But to get results suitable for printed material, a web site, or other promotional pieces, better training and instruction is required. Local junior colleges offer introductory courses that can be helpful, but one-on-one coaching by a photography pro is the most effective way to learn quickly. Photography might be compared to a sport such as golf or tennis. A person could just go out and start hitting balls, have fun, and possibly get pretty good. But if they really wanted to be a competent player they should spent time with a golf or tennis pro. It is the same with photography. A person could buy a camera and start taking pictures, but a few days with a photography pro would make the difference between being a snapshooter and professional level photographer.
Jim Mathis has been involved in photography for four decades. He has been in camera sales, presented workshops, owned a custom photo lab, operated a commercial portrait studio, and has authored a book on digital photography. He has now begun the Jim Mathis School of Photography. Though the school will eventually produce instructional material, videos, and workshops, the emphasis will be on one-on-one and small groups. Imagine spending a day on the golf course getting tips and instructions from a professional golfer and you will get an idea of how your photography can be improved by spending a day with Jim.
