12/03/2009 – Sunlighten™ has been chosen as the new name for health & wellness leader Sunlight Saunas™.
After a long-term strategic brand-building process, Sunlighten™ has been chosen as the new name for health & wellness leader Sunlight Saunas™. Under the same ownership and with a renewed sense of corporate mission, Sunlighten (http://www.sunlighten.com) has plans for a host of cutting-edge wellness products over the coming years, including advances in its line of long-celebrated infrared saunas.
The Overland Park-based company has shown consistent growth in the decade since its founding. Last year, Sunlighten won the Greater Kansas City Chamber Award for 'Top Small Business'. The company boasts more than $14 million in annual sales with 50 employees and 30 distributors in 13 countries. It also operates Sunlight Day Spa, voted one of the top day spas in the metropolitan area in KC Magazine's 2010 City's Best competition. Sunlight Day Spa specializes in healing and stress relief through a variety of therapies. Its offerings include massage, infrared sauna treatments, facials, body wraps, microdermabrasion and men's services.
As the infrared sauna industry leader, Sunlight Saunas decided the time was ripe to better deliver on its goal of helping people live more vital lives. The company is the same, but the new identity opens the door for a more diverse portfolio of wellness products imbued with technology—hence its new tagline, "Empowering Wellness". "Sunlight Saunas has grown up," explains Director of Marketing, Rob Persaud. "Our new name – Sunlighten – more strongly positions us to support the collective shift from disease treatment toward disease prevention, soon across a variety of new products. The focus on wellness is also reflected at Sunlight Day Spa, where we're committed to treatments with lasting impact." Entrepreneur magazine named Sunlighten one of its HOT 100 Fastest Growing Companies in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and the company was listed in The INC. 500 - America's Fastest Growing Private Companies in 2006 and 2008. Sunlight Day Spa, which offers sauna sessions as a complement to its full range of massage and facial services, has also shown significant growth since its 2007 debut.
Highly active in the community, Sunlighten partners with the American Heart Association, with owners Connie and Aaron Zack as board members of the Kansas City chapter. Sunlighten employees also volunteer regularly at Harvesters, Kansas City's only food bank. Aaron Zack, President/CEO notes, "One of the things I love about our company is that while delivering profitability, we are helping individuals everyday...and that is a very gratifying feeling."
